kpinnc 12,807 #1 Posted May 2, 2024 (edited) I never knew I needed one of these until I got it. About $25 online. If you build most anything, especially out of metal, this thing is awesome. The base is magnetic as well. You can "zero" on a given angle, and check multiple parts for misalignment. Otherwise perfectly level is 0.0. Probably not machine shop precise, but far better than my out of calibration eyeballs. Edited May 2, 2024 by kpinnc 5
squonk 41,649 #2 Posted May 2, 2024 I've had a Horror Fright model for years. I got it out the other day to make sure the battery was still good!
JoeM 7,874 #3 Posted May 2, 2024 (edited) I use my I-phone on level setting. but that is a nice tool to have. Edited May 2, 2024 by JoeM

You could also measure things like from the street to your house ( from inside the window), height of your roof to the ground, Floor size, How tall is that tree? Is that piece of pipe over there 3.5 ft or 4ft? etc etc. I don't use it a lot but it definitely comes in handy and always with me when needed. Great for quick estimating stuff
WHX?? 49,488 #6 Posted May 3, 2024 (edited) I have one you can use stand alone or it clamps on a 4 ft level. I seldom use it because I forget I have it! Edited May 3, 2024 by WHX?? 2 1

If I mess this thing up, I'm out $25. But otherwise the phone app would be nice to use.

I have the exact same one and use the crap out of it….welding, woodworking, mower deck leveling, all sorts of stuff. I try to keep my phone in my pocket as much as possible when working in the shop. squonk 41,649 #10 Posted May 3, 2024 (edited) One of the guys at work had to hang a sign at one of the entrances. Used the "level " app on his phone. It was as crooked as a 3 dollar bill! Edited May 3, 2024 by squonk

Have to be aware of that issue. Mine is dead nuts. Matter of fact the last two were right on. I don't weld near the phone just use fixtures and clamps to hold the metal holster the phone then weld. @wallfish mentioned measuring things. My son was buying me a new ball hat as a gift and use it to measure my head. So if someone is pointing one of these at you they just might be sizing you up.
