I have the opportunity to pick up a 1983 310-8 for 300 beans.

Guy say it’s in good running order ,no issues.with a 42”deck.

Im not familiar with anything manufactured in the 80s 😆

but seems to be a solid machine looking at tractor data.

Could I get some opinions on this machine, worth picking up ?

I'm not familiar with the 83 model year specifically but the 310-8 is a solid machine.

My dad bought one new in 88. We rebuilt the fuel pump and carb one time and replaced the ignition switch once. Those are the only things I can think of that it's ever needed outside regular routine maintenance and wear items.

I don't think he's ever even changed the coolant.

The first 300-Series tractors were in 1985.

Good solid design until the end in 2012.

It would be 1985 or newer. I have a 310-8 that is used regularly and only needs routine service. They are every inch as strong and well built as any model Wheel Horse.

It may have 1” axles instead of the beloved 1-1/8”.  That said, I have never seen a well maintained 1” axle break.

Sold this one last year at the Meet & Greet here in Maine. I installed the 1 1/8'' axle in this one only because the original one was left out and froze and split the original tranny by the PO. Great model, great tractor. This was a 1989 model.

If you end up not wanting it let me know where it is. I'd love a 310.

My 855 is great, but sometimes I think it'd be nice to also have one that parts are easier to find.

I just picked up a 310-8 last fall.  $300 is a no brainer for a good running 310-8 with a good working deck.

This tractor started life as a 1987 model 310-8. I've had it for more than 25 years. It is still the hardest working, most dependable tractor I have.

Many upgrades over the years, but still one of my favorites.

Nice tractor. I picked one up last year for free. Previous owner took it into a repair shop and the shop sold him a new green tractor. The PO was a friend of a friend who new I loved Wheel Horses so I picked it up from the repair shop. Needed a new carb and a battery. I cleaned it all up. Ordered custom decals from @Vinylguy , replaced head gasket,  new plug and oil and it runs and drives like a new machine. I call it my Free10-8.
