Wheelhorse#1 1,662 #1 Posted April 29 (edited) I have the opportunity to pick up a 1983 310-8 for 300 beans. Guy say it’s in good running order ,no issues.with a 42”deck. Im not familiar with anything manufactured in the 80s 😆 but seems to be a solid machine looking at tractor data. Could I get some opinions on this machine, worth picking up ? adsm08 2,060 #2 Posted April 29 I'm not familiar with the 83 model year specifically but the 310-8 is a solid machine. My dad bought one new in 88. We rebuilt the fuel pump and carb one time and replaced the ignition switch once. Those are the only things I can think of that it's ever needed outside regular routine maintenance and wear items. I don't think he's ever even changed the coolant.
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,045 #3 Posted April 29 The first 300-Series tractors were in 1985. Good solid design until the end in 2012. 2

Pullstart 62,886 #6 Posted April 29 It may have 1” axles instead of the beloved 1-1/8”. That said, I have never seen a well maintained 1” axle break.
JCM 9,167 #7 Posted April 30 Sold this one last year at the Meet & Greet here in Maine. I installed the 1 1/8'' axle in this one only because the original one was left out and froze and split the original tranny by the PO. Great model, great tractor. This was a 1989 model.

If you end up not wanting it let me know where it is. I'd love a 310. My 855 is great, but sometimes I think it'd be nice to also have one that parts are easier to find. Ed Kennell 38,178 #9 Posted April 30 (edited) I just picked up a 310-8 last fall. $300 is a no brainer for a good running 310-8 with a good working deck. Edited April 30 by Ed Kennell
kpinnc 12,061 #10 Posted April 30 This tractor started life as a 1987 model 310-8. I've had it for more than 25 years. It is still the hardest working, most dependable tractor I have. Many upgrades over the years, but still one of my favorites. 1

D_Mac 8,619 #16 Posted May 1 Nice tractor. I picked one up last year for free. Previous owner took it into a repair shop and the shop sold him a new green tractor. The PO was a friend of a friend who new I loved Wheel Horses so I picked it up from the repair shop. Needed a new carb and a battery. I cleaned it all up. Ordered custom decals from @Vinylguy , replaced head gasket, new plug and oil and it runs and drives like a new machine. I call it my Free10-8.
