KW88 31 #1 Posted April 29 I have an 88 312-8 that has lot of wobble with rear wheels. Axles have no movement except less the 1/8" in/ out. Does anyone know if there is a bearing in the hubs and part # if so?
JoeM 7,874 #2 Posted April 29 (edited) A little play in and out is good. No bearing in hub just a tight fit. Sounds like your hubs are worn. Need to remove, replace the seal, install a new key, install new set screws, and apply some Loctite 660 quick metal to the bore, reinstall and let it set up. All that if the bore is not worn too bad in the hubs. If so need some replacement hubs. The Loctite 660 can take up about .005 in slop. Clean the shaft and bore with carb cleaner. If you have a way to measure the shaft and bore that would be a good idea. A-Z makes a taper hub that I have used on a shaft that is .007 worn. A good fit on an axle to hub is when you have to lightly tap the hub onto the axle. Edited April 29 by JoeM

Put plug back in fill half full of diesel and drive up an down the road a while in all gears drain and repeat, repeat. Edited May 1 by oliver2-

kpinnc 12,358 #11 Posted May 1 (edited) The keyway in your hub pic is clearly wallowed out. Hopefully the axles aren't as bad. Sometimes you can have a standard 1/4 key slot cut onto the opposite side of the axle- IF they arent terribly worn from moving. And yes, new hubs would be a good thing. He sells special hubs that clamp to the axle when tightened. Those grooves don't look to deep.
