Horsin'round 79 #1 Posted April 28 So, I was surfing the local Facebook ads for wheelhorse parts, and came across a toolbox and fenders that looked to be in good nic. They came as a package with a a couple of bits that I'm not familiar with. They appear to be a blade mount and pivot for an rj/suburban, but I am uncertain. I have an rj and suburban project(s) that I thought it might fit. Are my instincts correct?
ri702bill 8,323 #2 Posted April 28 Welcome!! I'll give it a stab... Toolbox & fenders look to be from a 1962 tractor - a 502, 552, or 702. The 1961 701 had additional braces & pointed fenders. The toolbox & fenders on my 1964 854 are entirely different. The other assembly seems to be the upper half from a mid plow (belly grader). Bill
evanloock 221 #3 Posted April 28 (edited) The tool box and finders are off of a RJ-58/59, Suburban 400/550 or 401/551 (701 had a different tool box). The 62 and later tool box are different with brackets at the corners. Edited April 28 by evanloock
Horsin'round 79 #4 Posted April 28 I appreciate your insight. Here's the toolbox/fenders side by side with a set that came with this transmission, stamped 1960, if I'm reading it correctly. What are the characteristics that would make this a later set?
Horsin'round 79 #5 Posted April 28 Thank you 46 minutes ago, evanloock said: The tool box and finders are off of a RJ-58/59, Suburban 400/550 or 401/551 (701 had a different tool box). If so, I am on a new quest!
stevasaurus 22,741 #6 Posted April 28 The 3501 N is the part number for that psrt of of the transmission. The other is the date code for when the part was cast. D21-0 = D forth month of the year...21 is the date...0 is the year. So the code is April 20, 1960.
wallfish 17,000 #7 Posted April 28 The box and fenders are RJ/Suburban I don't recognize that other part as being Wheel Horse. Or, at least it's not for the RJ or Suburban dozer blades if that's what you are asking
Horsin'round 79 #8 Posted April 28 The gentleman I bought them from was cleaning out his father's garage, wasn't certain about any of it. I recognized that the toolbox and fenders would fit either the 58 rj transmission or the 60 suburban. The price was right for those parts alone. I will be bringing the unidentified parts along to the show, see if I can learn more. Thanks all!

Bill Yeah, no. Definitely RJ/Suburban. The ‘62 and up had stamped ribs in the fenders, they were not so parallel, and a different braced tool box.
Horsin'round 79 #10 Posted April 29 I learned that the other 2 parts are plow mounts for a bolens plow. I'll be sending them down the line first opportunity. The fenders and toolbox will most likely end up on the 58 rj. Thanks again. I'm looking forward to putting faces with the names at the show.
