Fuses

Is there more than the 15 amp fuse i’ve found on my 414-8 tractor, replaced fuse after it blew out (right front side by battery, while doing some testing last night with meter, last night tractor started after replacing the blown 15 amp fuse with the safety switch removed, this morning with safety switch under seat removed (unplugged) the tractor would not start, it needs good (working) switch to start tractor if i’m correct, just want to make sure its not another fuse blown (the one i replaced last night is still ok (has continuity)

John - download the manual for your specific tractor. It will contain the wiring diagram and it will tell you if there are additional fuses, but not where they are.......

I have not seen a 3 wire seat switch before, only 2 wire....

What is the model number of your tractor?

31-14K801 - 1986

31-14K802 - 1987

31-14K803 - 1988

31-14K804 - 1989

What is on the engine decal?

Engine model?

Engine specification number?

Engine serial number?

The engine was made in 1986 and the 60440 spec number was used only in 1986 by Wheel Horse.

So the tractor is a model 31-14K801

Click on the pictures in each link for more.

There is a 5 amp fuse for the gauges and it has no effect on the engine operation.

Download the wiring file and each circuit has it's own diagram. You will see what it takes for starting and for the engine ignition.

Let us know what you find out.

Last night with my buddy checking circuit with meter on wires for safety switch, he blew the 15 amp fuse on circuit when he grounded the circuit thru meter, tractor would start with switch unplugged, but when PTO was engaged, engine shut off, replaced fuse and tractor turned over and ran and PTO engagement shut off motor, this morning i put switch back in circuit and engine tried to turn over (second or two) and then stopped, now with switch unplugged (and removed) tractor will not turn over, last night it did fire up with switch removed, then blew fuse, replaced fuse and it ran, today with switch reinstalled nothing, 15 amp fuse was fine did not blow again, however, with switch removed from circuit, it should not start i believe, not sure why it turned over last night with switch removed from circuit, however today it would not fire up with switch removed, hopefully when new switch shows up at shop, i’ll pick it up and install it and no reason why tractor should not start and when PTO is engaged, motor will keep running, found 5 amp fuse for running hours and amp meters and it was fine, was looking to see if any other fuse might be bad, Elec diagram that i downloaded shows the two fuses that i found and both 15 amp and 5 amp were good this morning, so hopefully all i need to do is install switch when it arrives to get tractor running and PTO when engaged will not shut off motor, Long text in trying to explain whats been going on, thanks again  for the help everyone🤗

Downloaded the prints i got thanks to you gwest_ca , looks like no other fuses than the two i found (15 snd 5 amp), seems like the problem is a bad seat safety switch which i’ll install when it gets delivered to store here in town

The original data decal was below the front of the seat in 1986

this is the update i was asked to post as i’m not any farther after replacing the switch, it is the correct switch for the model tractor, however after installing new switch, tractor still does not turn over . not sure where else to look, i’ll take it out to A to Z Tractor if its out of my hands, elec diagram of this electrical system only shows to fuses, One (15amp) was blown and tractor started again right away, fuse was blown because my buddy put a test  meter on wiring to check for open circuit when he blew the fuse, even though the fuse was replaced right away  and tractor started one more time, the next morning i put unworking switch back in circuit, something else must of failed in elec system i believe, i know i might just take it out to let Lincoln try to fix issue. i thank you all (qwest_ca) the most, thats my update!! 🤷‍♂️

I guess the only question left is “What else could we have damaged electrically or mechanically that it will not let tractor turn over?”

Item 8 is the clutch pedal switch. If you look down through the right side shifter slots you should see the switch on the right vertical panel. It is activated by the idler pulley hardware outside the vertical panel.

Item 20 are two identical switches. One for the start circuit and one for ignition. You will need to compare the wire colors to know what switch is what. These are activated by the pto handle/lever at the right rear of the battery.

Right and left are always from the operator in the seat position.

gwest_ca, Thank you again for your help, this is Item #8, Little sheared off at the very end and looks worn, As the pics i sent along with post show, on the piece is stamped “Little Fuse Inc” and states “5A at 125v and 2.5 A at 250v, this looks to be what needs to be replaced so far, have not yet removed the one that appears to be at spot where it engages the light on panel for parking break ( Item # 20), since the seat switch appears ok (original one and the one i just purchased) hopefully i’ve narrowed it down to Item #8 first and then Item(s) #20 thanks to your input, i’ll let you know how/which one is the one, since you cannot return elec pieces purchased, Item #8 appears to be my better chance.  (Bent screw in 2nd pic was only there to make angle better for photo!😊
