Fordiesel69 263 #1 Posted April 23 Which overall unit would have a more reliable lifespan? I like kawasaki stuff, but also hear the kohler command CH22s is no slouch either. Also when test driving the 522 has a steering feature that slows you down in turns where as the 520Lxi did not have this feature. Pros / Cons of both? Pullstart 62,883 #2 Posted April 23 That feature was standard on Xi series, it was called Smart Steer. It was fairly easy to bypass.
stevebo-(Moderator) 8,330 #3 Posted April 23 Some of the 520lxi early units had cam gear issues because they were plastic and later changed to metal. I have had both a like both. I currently have a 520lxi and it has some smoke on start but runs so smooth. You really cannot go wrong with either. Only other advantage is 520lxi is liquid cooled so you can tap into the hot water if you are looking to add heat in a cab for wi tee use…
Pullstart 62,883 #4 Posted April 23 If you are shopping and both are available, be sure to inspect the front axle pivots. The tractor will need to be lifted by the frame for proper inspection.

My 520 lxi has smart steer, and whilst I like the concept, the thing that is wrong with it is degree by which it slows you down. In electronics, we'd call that 'Gain'. When I get a minute, I'm thinking of attempting to adjust the gain, ie the amount which it slows you down, by changing the lever ratios that make up the system....and I'll report back if I'm successful. You hurtle across the field with the cruise control engaged and then drop to a yawningly slow speed as you turn at the end of each row. It really is irritating!
