Achto 27,565 #2 Posted April 20 I don't own a tiller but...A common complaint when running a tiller with a hydro tranny is that you have to hold back on the hydro lever to keep the tiller from pushing the tractor forward too fast. The hydro is much better for tilling, especially in virgin ground having a few rocks. (I like the hydro lift too) Reversing a hydro will not damage it unless you overheat the oil and if you keep the pump fins clean no problem. As far as tilling, weight helps the most, front and rear. Tractorhead 9,064 #10 Posted April 21 (edited) Made me one myself out of an old Handsteering tiller. enlarged it with 2 more Shovels and refitted it with a stronger Engine. that thing digs like a charme. Oh, forgotten - for a quick stop i added an Automatic Clutch on the Engine - Throttle can be pulled on the tiller or with a remote bowden. It sits on the rearhitch with an self constructed Mount. up and down is made with the Original Wheelhorse hitch. i let the Original Tyres on it to move it simpler arround in my Shed. The tines do more pushing than the wheels. In fact the transmission has to hold the tractor back, which doesn't work so well with hydros. One bright note is that the belt is actually long enough to put a twist in, so you have the option of forward or reverse tine rotation. I'll never try it on a hydro again, though. I had the same thoughts after seeing your awesome build Ed. I have been buying cheap and just flipping tillers. I realized I am not nor will I ever be Ed so... I walk behind my tillers like a chump. Ten bucks for the last one. Vertical shaft with what I call a pinch clutch. Please correct me. Two flattened cones that pinch together to drive tines.
