Also, any tips for disassembling the transaxle?

Agreeing with @953 nut that the likeliest place to look is in the differential or right axle, though I’m still puzzled that you can turn the right hub and affect the left but not turn the left and affect the right.

At this point, it I think it less likely to be in the hydro itself so I would not open any of the hydro pump or motor at this point.

@mrc’s point about dirt is well made. The transaxle is the “tank” for the hydro--the same oil circulates through the pump, motor, and transaxle. Keeping the innards free of any contamination is extremely important. The Eaton 11 Service Manual is a good pre-read before getting into @19richie66's terrific tutorial.

Also, if you haven’t replaced the hydro filter in a while, I’d plan on a new one after this job, in addition to new gaskets!

Possibly this keyway or it could have sheared off some teeth on that gear and it’s not making contact with the drive gear off the pump.

Still confused that turning the left hub turns the brake drum--seems to imply that diff and intermediate gears are all working. Maybe a sheared key with enough residual friction to turn the drum but not enough to drive the machine?

Okay, thanks for the advice. I have a tractor mechanic coming over tomorrow to take a closer look and I’ll share the advice you guys gave me.

I’ll post an update on what he thinks and potential next steps
