ri702bill 8,316 #4 Posted April 6 (edited) Four wheel drum brakes.... ALWAYS an adventure in the rain, afer going thru standing water hub deep. Driving 2 feet and 2 hands to dry the brakes out, and then the test "stab" to see if it hooks hard in another direction. NO longer taught in Driver's Ed. Beap52 809 #7 Posted April 7 (edited) I still prefer foot dimmer switches. A cowl vent and wing windows sure moves the air through the cab. I'm still running breaker points in two of my vehicles. Indeed there is more maintenance but I don't remember them letting me down along the road (like my new (import) electronic ignition module in my daily driven pickup). I do like disk brakes. I still get the willies thinking about changing drum brakes and the spring that has hooks on both ends. I didn't have the special tool to assist stretching then spring in place and was using a screwdriver. One slip and I buried that spring in my hand. WOW! If that were to happen now that could get me in the "bumps and bruises" section. I'm happy to see not new injuries have been reported since Jan 10.
