Lane Ranger 10,968 #1 Posted April 5 My recycling mower quadrant broke from a rusty spot last week and I needed to mow again between all the rains we have been having. Put the 36 inch mower deck on my B-80 this am and after installing had a problem. My PTO would not engage and when moving the PTO rod forward to engage the tractor would die. Checked all the wiring on key switch, ammeter, rectifier and safety switches ( all mine are original) and did not find any issue. I removed the wiring connector to the PTO switch and everything looked good on wiring connector and back of switch. My Wheel Horse parts manual does not provide a part number for this PTO switch although it is noted in the wiring schematic. One other thing I had to do is hold the PTO engagement lever back in order to start the tractor. Anyone have a part number or information about a replacement switch? It could be something else but I am at a loss for figuring this problem out. I have a c-160 that has a loose PTO engagement switch but once you hold it back and start the tractor the tractor continues to run and the PTO engages the belt for the mower deck. I think the clutch switch on my mid 70s B & C Series is only a 2 terminal. @Lane Ranger I've read somewhere that some PTO switches have opposing circuits where one is Normally ON and one side is Normally OFF. When the switch is thrown the circuits reverse which is how the system is (dis)engaged. Only ONE of those circuits needs to be disabled/broken to prevent the switch operating properly. JoeM 7,874 #10 Posted April 5 (edited) Lane I have fixed those switches by removing the base from the housing and cleaning the contacts inside. just be careful small parts inside. Have to gently bend the circled tabs back. I believe one set of those contacts is for the seat start circuit ??? I have bought less expensive single pole switches for to stop the machine from starting with the pto on but not using the seat sw.
