ACman 7,618 #52 Posted October 26 (edited) My cousin has seen this guy for three years now. Just never close enough to get a shot . They don’t get that big being stupid . . Coyotes have been out of control behind the house for the last week . Was leaving the middle school football game the other night and heard a friend say that he taking the couch out for a night hunt . Told him what I had going on and around midnight I heard two shots. Same night another local guy seen 8 and had gotten 6 of them . Edited October 26 by ACman
adsm08 2,045 #53 Posted October 26 We finally saw a few this morning. I went out early by myself to try and foot a shew pheasants, no such luck. Almost got shot myself by a deer hunter, guy admitted he knew I was there when he shot at the deer when I confronted him. Good thing he didn't look like a pheasant. On the way back to the car I came within a few feet of getting barreled over by a spike. Then I took the boy out, since the deer were all over, we saw 4 but none came close enough or slowed down enough for him to get a shot.

He only had on an orange cap, which is actually more than the legal requirement for a stationary archery hunter. I knew he was there too, but I did not see the deer. I heard it take off after he shot though.
Ed Kennell 38,104 #56 Posted October 28 The bucks are starting to search for doe. This guy followed three doe across the field about 80 yards from my stand. About 1/2 hour later the three doe crossed the other direction. He came back a few minutes later. He's not a monster, but broadside at 15 yards...I couldn't pass.

I need to be selective on what projects I consider. He doesn't quite qualify for a full mount, but he'll go on the wall If I can find a spot. Kinda interesting genetics. I think he is probably related to the one I took in 2022 out of the same tree. 2022 2024 Not much wall space remaining in Ed's room. I do have some good news. Some of you know the story on this little piebald buck that was evidence in a 2009 Maryland poaching case that happened at Rocky Gap State Park. After the trial I got the deer and did the full mount. Many people from Cumberland, Md. spent hours watching this deer and his mother feed in the no hunting area of the park. For three years I have been trying to donate the mount for display at the Campground visitor center. They refused to take it due to the lack of paper work, but I just got approval that they can now put it on display. So I am cleaning him up and will be delivering him to the park in two weeks. 1
adsm08 2,045 #60 Posted October 29 I was talking to the neighbor last night, he said he's had a big spike on his cameras behind the house, not legal for either of us, but a good shooter for the boy. Unfortunately the bugger only seems to come around at 3 am.

We have a lab that has spent more time playing with white-tails than other dogs over the course of her life. She's only been an only pup for about two months out of 13 years, she has just always liked deer better, and they seem to accept her.

This was one of three items that were auctioned off. Lots of raffles going throughout the night as well as a bingo game . Really had to be paying attention to what drawing or numbers were being called . I’m from a small town and just after my accident 14 years ago they had a benefit for me . It’s a small hall and no one was expecting 800+ people showing up ,especially me . They helped raise a bunch of money for my family and I’m not even a veteran . So when I can I give back so they can help others in need .
Ed Kennell 38,104 #72 Posted Sunday at 10:23 PM (edited) I'm all tagged out on deer, so I headed West on Thursday to hunt turkey on my sisters farm in Somerset County. I dropped off the little white deer at Rocky Gap State Park on the way. He'll be on display at the visitors center. Then on to my sisters to hunt turkey. Friday morning I was overlooking a side where I knew turkey to roost when this guy walked by me at 25 yards. Sorry for the quality, but it was early and very foggy at 7:30 AM. When he had passed me and was about 35 yards away, I switched the camera to still pics and hoped to get a better still in the bad light. I continued to grunt and he turned and walked all stiff legged right at me within 10 Yds. Seconds later he got behind, winded me and left. No turkey sign, so I headed for the cabin for coffee. Got the stove going and got so relaxed, I spent the rest of my turkey hunt in the cabin watching deer all day. WHX?? 48,811 #73 Posted Sunday at 10:40 PM In my Navy days my room mate had a good shipmate that was from PA. When the shipmate got out roomie and I went to visit him and he had a place much like what Ed pictured. Absolutely gorgeous and we relaxed on the porch sipping and watching the deer & bear and wild life. Loved it so much seriously thought about moving to PA when I got out instead of moving back here. Sure wished we had cameras like today back then.
adsm08 2,045 #74 Posted Sunday at 11:10 PM (edited) @Ed Kennell Sounds like your turkey hunt went about as well as mine. Dad has all the deer he wants for the year, so Saturday he took the boy out to one of his blinds while I went the other way into the pines. I heard gobbling on and off all morning but never found the bird. I saw a mamma and two little ones early on, then as I was walking away from that encounter I kicked was what probably a buck looking to get lucky, but never saw his head. Then about 2 hours later on top of a knoll in the same hollow I had two young ones come running in spooked. One went left and away from me, the other circled around behind and settled in for about 10 minutes, then came back, walked in to about 10 yards from me, then left seemingly none the wiser I was there. When we met back at camp for lunch my son said they saw 6 running by them but they never stopped or go close enough for a shot. This morning before we left I took him back to where I was yesterday and we had a decent sized buck walk in, but he got suspicious when the boy turned to try and get himself a better angle. He looked right at me and stomped, then the guy who's back yard butts up to that edge of the property started talking on his porch and the deer took off. He never came in closer than 50 yards anyway, and we don't want him shooting more than maybe 20 yet because he just made draw minimum weight for this season. And that's the story of all the turkeys I saw this weekend. Edited Sunday at 11:11 PM by adsm08
