312-8 with K301 Throttle cable

Recommended Posts

TC10284

I'm fixing up a 312-8 with a K301. The model number is faded off from the sticker. The throttle cable broke on me yesterday and I need a replacement. I looked up the part numbers of the cable for a 1986 model which I believe still had the K301 engine on it. The part numbers were:

Toro 110715

Throttle Control 308

Superseded to 115853

I don't really need the throttle lever, just the cable. So I hate to spend $100+ on all that when I just need the cable. I measured it out to be around a 44" cable.

Does anyone know of any replacement cables?

Make your own if levers are good yet.  Google these two products. The sheathing has a nice inner plastic for Greasy Pete operation. :)

You'll have enough left over to make some friends. Might want to get a pair of z bend pliers as well.

:text-yeahthat:

You can order cable and conduit or just one or the other. Also find a cheap throttle set up and take them off and swap to your control.

What broke? If it's just the end with the Z you can remake that too

About an inch or a little over broke off the control side. Will that be enough leftover to operate the throttle without being too sensitive? It was originally super sensitive to begin with, but that could have been because of the linkages.

I will have to get a Z wrench/tool as well.

What do you use to separate where the cable is pressed into the control?

Get a new cable and make it a tad longer than it already is/was. It will "give " a little when you operate the lever. Maybe it was already too short to begin with and that's why it broke.

This is the T handle lever type control ??

You'll need to remove the wire so the conduit can be cut shorter. Cut the conduit shorter with wire cutters about the same amount as the wire lost.

Slide the wire back through and make a new end. Z bends can be made in the wire with needle nose pliers.

Sensitivity has nothing to do with the length of the cable. For "sensitivity" do you mean the lever moves little compared to go from idle to full RPM? That should be able to be adjusted through connections at the engine and linkages

If the cable is to short it's hard to operate and there won't be any way to adjust it.

This is on a small block 8 but the same principle applies.

The jungle has the z pliers cheap too.

Just pry the pinch clamp apart.
