Keith Kinard 0 #1 Posted March 27 Dead battery this spring. Installed new battery as soon as I connected terminals all the dash lights lit up they light up when the key is not turned on. It was fine when I parked it in the fall flights stay on solid. What am I looking at for a potential problem?

cleat 6,098 #3 Posted March 27 Sounds like a critter may have chewed a wire harness . Check the entire harness for obvious damage.
lynnmor 7,322 #4 Posted March 27 Did you connect the battery wrong? Even a brief reverse connection can cause damage.

gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,072 #7 Posted March 27 Download this file. There is a diagram in it that shows dash wiring on it's own.

I actually picked up a '94 520H for free because it would not run. Would crank over just fine but would not start. Found that the battery cables were hooked up backwards. Hooked them up the correct way and it fired right up. Been using it ever since.

cleat 6,098 #10 Posted March 28 Either the ignition switch failed on it's own while parked (not likely), or some critter chewed some insulation off wires causing them to touch and short against each other. Give the entire harness a good check including the engine harness as the problem could come from there as well.
