Old Collection - Questions / Getting rid of it

Recommended Posts

bobbyd

Hopefully this is the right place.

My grandfather had a pretty extensive collection of wheel horse tractors and I am looking to get rid of them.  My main question is are they worth anything beyond scrap value?

No real clue about the condition these things are in besides what you can see from the pictures. Pretty sure some of them kinda worked about 10 years ago though.

Definitely worth more than scrap! Doubt you will find someone to buy it all as one lot. Most likely would need to sell them off individually.

We do have a vendor that deals in used Wheel Horse parts and would be likely to make an offer on the whole lot. Give Lincoln a phone call and let him look at the pictures to get some idea of what he could offer. Here is a link with his phone number.

You stick around here long enough, and maybe we can convince you to get one or two going for yourself!  :handgestures-thumbupright:  I have found most often they are worth more in my garage than they are in my pocket.

grandfather might have held on to some just a bit too long and didn't store them very well.

Agreed but still... some must die so others can live. The GT 14 & C-160 look to be saveable.

Check out the little red riding black hood Sylvia. @SylvanLakeWH Just makes a guy wonder if some didn't leave the factory red. I forgot to mention when I posted this one awhile back that no evidence of this one being re-painted.

Im guessing PO paint job... looking at the front faux grille etc. the metal fender pan conversion with same color, and the remnant paint on the headlight bezels... :eusa-think:

Definitely worth more than scrap.  A lot of work to be done, but a lot of good parts also.  Too far away for me to do anything about, but I imagine there are several folks in the New England area who would like to have it by the piece or by the trailer load.

Thanks for the feedback. Ideally I would like to get rid of them all at once, but they aren't taking up any useful space so its not too big of a deal

I will say the ones "inside" are in a bit better condition than what the pictures look like, low light and compression did them no favors.

For those interested I am in Walpole, Massachusetts

Seen a few of the 308's that were all red, the engine could have been changed. Heartd that a Big Box Store sold some Wheel Horses. Could have been that they were all red.

If I had some semi deep pockets, I could jump on the lot, but unfortunately that can't happen. What kind of $ are you looking for? One by one or as a lot?

Bob there are people here could help you out on this collection of tractors. You can post in for sale section here. But try and get better pictures of the inside ones. Good luck.

There were red hood 308's and 310's.  I had a 308 that I loved, but the 36" deck wasn't enough for my acreage.  Had to either build more garage or trim the herd.

Yeah, wanted to and was a near thing.  Had to back off for $$$ and other reasons at the time.  Could still happen if things go well but ... priorities ... :confusion-shrug:

They are all worth something to the members of Red Square. Sell them off.

Hi Bobbyd,

I may have interest in the black hood tractor with the charger and bottle of oil sitting on its hood.  I see that it is a hydro, but I have no idea what size the engine is?  If you end up selling these singley, please let me know.  I'm not that far away, I'm in Vermont.

Thanks,

C-85
