BHpa 6 #1 Posted March 15 I'm looking for some help making sure I have the right air filter for my tractor. I have a 310-8 with a Kohler Magnum 10 engine (Spec #: 461521). I've consulted the air filter thread with the engine numbers but my engine model isn't listed. I have the filter that was on it and can still read the NAPA part # (2299). The problem is that the filter on the NAPA site doesn't match the dimensions of the one I have. Since I got the tractor used I find my self wondering if it even had the right filter on it in the first place. Can anyone point me to a more complete list of engine models and filter sizes? Thanks! gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,045 #2 Posted March 15 Item 6 should be correct original number https://www.partstree.com/models/m10-461521-kohler-magnum-engine-made-for-wheel-horse-10hp-7-5kw/air-intake-1-10-508-rev-3-15-2006-to-show-group-description-0/ Dimensions on this page - click on the filter
squonk 41,118 #3 Posted March 15 Correct filter is 4588302S1. It is 1.75" high X 6.1" O.D. That matches a Napa # 2373 or Primeline #7-02204. Foam pre filter is Primeline # 7-02204-1 Napa 2299 is the Filter used on the large Kohler air filter assemblies like on the C-
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,045 #4 Posted March 15 I have the 4588302S1 being 3" tall. Can someone else check? I hate giving wrong info.

Gary According to my Napa Prolink the 4588302S1 is 1.75" tall. https://pro.napaprolink.com/p/SME4588302S1?impressionRank=1&flow=plp Remember, Info on cross references is only as good as the person who entered the info in the first place. Meaning cross references can have errors. The 2299 filter (SME 7-02226) the OP says he has which he thinks is wrong is 3 " tall which is a Kohler # 4508302 https://pro.napaprolink.com/p/SME702226?impressionRank=2&flow=plp I see Jack's small engine says it's 3" tall. I know the filter he has is 3" But even the Napa online lists it differently. There is some info wrong somewhere. difference between the 2 part #'s is the 2nd digit 0 vs. 8 Brand NAPA Width (mm) 152.4 mm Contains VOCs Yes Width (Inches) 6 in. VMRS Code 041001089 Height 1.75 in Original Equipment Series Kohler O.E. # 45883021 Outside Diameter 6.1 in SDS Required Yes Edited March 15 by squonk
BHpa 6 #6 Posted March 15 Yeah, the filter that was on the tractor was 3" tall. But I'm unsure what should be correct.

squonk 41,118 #8 Posted March 15 @BHpa I don't have a Magnum here so I don't know what kind of housing they use . The 3" filter normally comes in a housing like this And the 1.75" filter comes in one like this
Lee1977 6,660 #9 Posted March 15 (edited) Yes all the 300 and 400 WH's 10 thru 16 HP single cylinder Kohler Magnum had a deep filter, never measured one. Edited March 15 by Lee1977
kpinnc 12,062 #10 Posted March 15 If the 3 inch filter fits (and it should on a Magnum), just go with that. I ran that filter on my 310-8 for decades. It's better to have more unrestricted airflow than not on a worker.
RED-Z06 2,221 #11 Posted March 15 My M10 had the thicker filter. If the narrower filter was on there would be a ton of thread sticking out front
Lee1977 6,660 #12 Posted March 16 I add a coupling nut piece of treaded rod and a couple of jam nuts and used the thick filter on all my Kohlers. The short cover don't cover all the filter, but I use it.

RED-Z06 2,221 #14 Posted March 16 My M12 has a steel hat between the filter and plastic cover. Is that normal?
