pimpo 6 #1 Posted March 8 Hello all, so I have a 1969 raider 12 model # 6241 My battery keeps dying between uses. It will take a jump. When it’s running with my meter I have 14.7v at the battery terminals. Replaced rectifier last season. With meter to ground at the center orange wire on rectifier I have 14.7v. So I would assume it’s charging the battery. Any thoughts? Or anything I am missing? Thanks
953 nut 55,189 #2 Posted March 8 With any electrical problem the first thing you should do is have the battery load tested, auto parts stores will do it for free. Next you should clean, inspact and tighten ALL electrical connections including grounds.Any connection that isn't clean and tight will result in a significant voltage drop.
WHX?? 48,814 #3 Posted March 8 A handy tool to have. https://hftools.com/app61747 Yes you can take it to a batteries plus for testing as well. Batteries should be fully charged before load testing.
squonk 41,068 #4 Posted March 8 Battery dying between uses. Either the battery is shot or you have something drawing power with the key off. Do you own a 12 volt test light or multimeter?
WHX?? 48,814 #5 Posted March 8 Or just disconnect the battery between uses. Battery goes dead might have a shorted cell.
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,040 #6 Posted March 9 If the top of the battery is wet and collecting dirt that will cause a short between the posts. Attach a voltmeter lead to one post and run the other across the top of the battery in the dirt.
