Bob Bauer 26 #1 Posted March 5 Hi I have a sundstrand transmission that has a small leak on the bottom underneath in the middle and wondering if I can put a bottle of transmission stop leak for now until I can get to the problem.wondering if it would work and be safe for the transmission. pfrederi 17,856 #2 Posted March 5 (edited) Absolutely NOT!! You will plug up any number of tiny orifices essential to operation. Edited March 5 by pfrederi

I don't think I'd want anything other than proper fluid in there. 4 minutes ago, Bob Bauer said: sundstrand transmission that has a small leak on the bottom underneath in the middle Only thing down there is the drain plug or the gasket between the case halves. Keep in mind the leaking fluid could be traveling from another location too.
pfrederi 17,856 #4 Posted March 5 Clean the front of the transmission see if it is leaking down from the motion control
pfrederi 17,856 #5 Posted March 5 Put a drip pan under her keep her filled up and use her until you have time to properly run down the leak. Leaks don't harm the hydro as long as you keep it filled... 4

kpinnc 12,358 #11 Posted March 7 Sundstrands that actually have a leak tend to do so at either the axle seal(s), or at the motion control lever. Axle seal leaks tend to travel to the lowest point before dripping, which makes it appear to leak at the gasket or towards the lowest part of the middle. Check fluid before and after each use, just to verify how much is lost. Never use the tranny if low in fluid. If the loss is minimal, just do as has been suggested and fix when you can.
