RED-Z06 2,221 #2 Posted March 17 Knock Er Loose is the only penetrant ive used that ive seen actually work. Had a spindle on an older Simplicity tractor, pulley was NLA, spindle NLA, Shaft NLA...and both bearings pooched. Put it in the press with a backer to press the pulley off..nothing. couldn't get really aggressive with it. Tried some heat and the press, nothing. Let it cool down, tried using a brass drift...nothing. sprayed the pulley/ shaft with knock er loose and went home. Next morning i came in and picked it up to put in the press and the pulley slid off...whole length of rusty shaft was wet and the rust had released...wiping it off was clean steel.

I’ve had good luck with Liquid Wrench but not nearly as thorough as your “clean metal” description.
peter lena 8,658 #4 Posted March 17 @RED-Z06 glad I didn't pooched referring to anything , although I know what it means , the good pricing and large size of that knock er loose penetrant , initially caught my eye , and it also works . also tried it on .some old paint , long soak , clean cloth wipe down , sign of life . pete

Would you say it's better than Kroil? Since it works that good you better stock up. It probably has something in it that'll be banned in five years. It probably had something in it that'll be banned in five years. I like Kroil for some stuff, its a better lubricant than knock er loose but an inferior penetrant. WD-40 is by far the cheapest but also the most useless. Liquid Wrench isnt bad but it akways stinks and it seems to lose pressure mid-can, its a decent lubricant. Free-All is also really good, it evsporates slowly but does evaporate, reminds me of an aeresol gun oil i used to use. If i have a stiff nut or bolt ill use Kroil, a sticky pivot, kroil, but if its not moving, and i need it to move...Knock er Loose. I had a Cub Cadet 60" Tank Z mower in last month, the blade bolts had a 1 1/16 head, 3 years since last change...my 1/2" wouldn't even tickle them, i broke out the 3/4" impact with the weighted socket...nothing, talking..hammering on them for 2 minutes, with light heat. I doused them in Knock er Loose and put the impact battery on charge for the 3rd time. Couple hours later, all 3 came off with 0 drama, rust all the way up the bolt but the part that was stuck was the flanged head to the blade face.
Bill D 1,927 #7 Posted March 18 Wow! I have to buy some of this stuff. Sounds great for steering wheels and hitch pins.
peter lena 8,658 #8 Posted March 18 @Bill D Kroil pricing has , just about killed itself , no question about its creeping ability . free up just about anything , that was my original intent to find anything thats as good / cheaper . as I said , do a lot of AMAZON shopping , and often have free related shipping . also start any free up attempt , days out , with regular related usage , vibration , twisting , heat / motion , attracts , a lubricant . been doing that long time , can't expect anything to be an instant cure for neglect , make the rust run out , thats your sign of penetration . just my own personal view to a problem . Pete Its definitely gotten up in price. For years in forums and groups all i heard about was the cult following Kroil had, i was really excited to finally find it and try it. Its a good lube, i really like it on stuff that should be lubed but hasn't been like deck belt tensioner pivots, steering shafts and gears. But i never saw good penetrantion from it, it wouldn't wick into threads without heat. I do love heat, cant be stuck if its liquid
