Docwheelhorse 2,660 #1 Posted February 2 (edited) Good evening everybody, Thoughts on this new Snake Oil and what do you think would happen inside an older K or Magnum? Make things better? Worse? Nothing? Im curious and may try it on one thats already a smoker and see what happens. ri702bill 8,323 #3 Posted February 2 OK, Johnnie - just where do all the suspended solids go???? The K series has no pressure lubrication nor oil filter - so, go back to my original question. Thirty plus years of carbon crud ends up in the "Lifeblood" fluid.... what could POSSIBLY go wrong??????????? Reminds me of the old "MOTOR MEDIC" solvent treatment popular in the 1960's and 70's..Opens up both clogged oil returns AND a can of worms......

When I was working in the Marine repair trades (boats and both 2 and 4 stroke engines) we tried a product called Marine Motor Medic De-Carb... the Sh@t worked and worked well. I dunno... maybe Ill try it on a motor that blowing it up would only sting a little.
peter lena 8,629 #8 Posted February 3 @Docwheelhorse been using RISLONE zinc additive over 2 years now , 4 OZ for 2 QTS of oil , by the way , Castrol oils have the lowest burn/ smoke rate , initially tried this on a , used engine , usual neglect , barely any oil in it , slowly run in an engine , get it hot , looking / listening to the change / like a running ease , also note oil color / cleaning flushing , get some hours on it . use it with ROTELLA 30 wt in summer/ fall , and CASTROL l 5-30 , HI MILAGE green bottle oil , zero smoke , engines run with ease , oil changes are hot / black flushing . also put STA BIL in all my ethanol fuel , carbs are clean / clear , 2 fuel filters .also run in an engine on a separate gallon of gas , heavily treated , https://www.google.com/search?q=rislone+zinc+oil+treatment&sca_esv=c55caad1bf05249f&rlz=1C1CHBF_enUS866US866&sxsrf=ACQVn089VVodizHdLMRI5tKVa, heard all the you can't do thats, years now on 3 engines , engines are clean / clear , they sound very free in use , pete

I don't see what it could hurt for a oil change or two. What comes out on the first change should show whether it did anything or not. My only concern would be the oil pan gasket. They tend to weep a little anyway, and that oil might break stuff up enough to make leaks worse. Kinda like when folks started swapping over to full synthetic after years of dino juice.
JoeM 7,874 #12 Posted February 3 Just use a good diesel grade oil.....they have all the good stuff in there already. And on a splash lubed machine, change it on time. That product kind of reminds me of the old timers that would throw a quart of transmission oil in, to clean up the internals, a few hundred mile before an oil change.
peter lena 8,629 #13 Posted February 3 @Brockport Bill obviousely engine speck oil is good , another thing have really noticed is going to a 5-30 oil over winter , the cold oil ( warm up ) is much better , its instant , like Castrol semi synthetic , very low burn rate , less smoke . this is a personal change that has worked for me, many hours , years , with a solid running change for the better . also the mechanical state of everyone's engine is different . any change is not an instant change , but the start of change . most engines I see have little oil in them , and is way past its life . think the RISLONE ZINC , is a specific cleaner , additive that really works , 2 oz per qt of oil , put some time on it , note oil color change , also engage the pto drive if empty , to enhance engine loading . my engines are all good with this set up . get some hours on it , just my suggestion , pete
rmaynard 15,461 #14 Posted February 3 You all know my opinion on snake oil. This may claim to make the pistons "factory clean", but it can't make them factory new. Things wear out. I can wash the mud from the treads of my tires, but as soon as I use them again, they get filled with mud. My opinion?
Rick3478 428 #15 Posted February 3 Random thought - if this stuff dissolves carbon, might it also dissolve seals and gaskets?
