Vinnie 6 #1 Posted January 26, 2024 I have an oil leak coming out of the bearing plate. I was able to tighten up 3 of the bolts. How many bolts are there and how do you remove PTO flywheel to get to bearing plate bolts?

Loosen the belt by turning the knob up front on the mule drive, pull the 3 pins, one on the engagement lever to pivot on the hoop, one on the middle of the hoop, and one at the bottom. This will let you drop the engagement arm out, lower the hoop some and swing it over. The pto pulley bell will slide off, good time to inspect the bearings inside and in the end, wipe off the shiny race on the crankshaft, remove the (4) 7/16 head bolts and secure the 2 little lip clips that retain that shiny race on the crank (they slip into the groove). This should allow you to slide the friction plate and bearing race off, leaving only the pulley behind but it should give access to the bolts. On assembly, put the crank race on, slide the disc over and flush to the pulley...manipulate the sleeve so the little clips will slide into the groove, then put the clips and screws back in. Wipe the bearing race off and put a dab of grease on it, smear it thin around it, but not a glob so it slings off onto the disc. Then reassemble. Sounds like alot but its a 15 minute thing. lynnmor 7,443 #3 Posted January 26, 2024 I would remove the plate and replace the seal and gasket.
squonk 41,737 #4 Posted January 26, 2024 (edited) I had the same issue. Moved my 520 out of the garage to clean. No oil on the floor. Drove it back in and oil everywhere. I had to remove the cab to get the belt guard off which you will need to do also. Every bolt was loose. If this had happened when I was snow blowing, I would have been done for. I said " Never again! " Sold the tractor Edited January 26, 2024 by squonk

Vinnie 6 #7 Posted February 11, 2024 Do I need to drain the oil from the engine to replace the bearing plate gasket?

Be careful that you don’t get any dirt inside. Edited February 11, 2024 by lynnmor
