With total colon removal, complications and frequency with a J-pouch made keeping the stoma the best solution for me. I wear a brace when doing any heavy work due to a hernia. Highly recommend wearing a brace. Have to limit intake of fresh vegetables due to blockages. When I get a blockage, Mexican Cokes in the bottle really help. Something about the acid and the carbonation really helps. Most water I drink is unsweetened seltzer water. Drip drop electrolyte drink, 1 a day minimum, has been an absolute life saver. It is common for people with stomas to be in the hospital for electrolyte problems, sometimes several times a year. I haven't been once. You have to drink way more water with a stoma but you have to replace those electrolytes. Gatorade doesn't cut it. Anyhow, I'll stop with the unsolicited advice. But seriously, reach out if you need to.
