JohnnyB 0 #1 Posted January 25 520H with Eaton 1100 Hydro. leaky axle seals. I have replaced them numerous times and they only work for a few hours before leaking again. I have polished the seal surface best I can without complete disassembly. Does anyone rebuild these? The axles do have some rust so I would assume new axles and bearings would be in order. squonk 41,291 #2 Posted January 26 (edited) The entire pump comes off as a unit. All that is left inside is the differential. Remove the pump. Split the case and out every thing comes. I replaced a pump before. I was really stuck to the case. Hose fitting is hard to get at. Unit Is very heavy. Hubs can be difficult to remove. JoeM 7,874 #4 Posted January 26 If the seal area is rusty using sand paper to clean it up. It is hard to get into the seal area just have to be patient and try to clean it up. I have had seen a couple of these were the axle bearing is good and it seems to still leak or drip some oil. (you will get a slight amount of side play in the axle) Some things to try. Make sure the breather in your dipstick is open, excessive case pressure can force oil out of the seals. Remove the dipstick and blow air through the stem to ensure it is open. If using the thinner skf 11124 seal, (this seal is half as thick as the OE), you can drive it in a little further to get on a better part of the axle surface. Also, there is enough room in the axle seal recess to use two seals. I put a little grease in the spring grove of the second seal before installing the seal. Aids in seal break in. Some will say two seals will screw up your axle and won't work, that is BS. These axles run at such a slow rpm heat in the seal is not an issue if doubled up. Using double seals is very popular in mining and marine applications, especially where environmental concerns exist.
