Handy Don 13,303 #126 Posted February 15 Have you started in on the to-scale person that will motor around in this creation?!
Mickwhitt 4,985 #127 Posted February 18 Ha ha, I'm not looking to have a little guy sitting in there. Some builders are using animatronic figures in their vehicle, operated by radio control. They look a bit clunky to my mind but whatever floats your boat. I carried on the control work today, making a gear lever and range selector lever. The gear lever is fixed but the range lever moves and will hopefully operate a microswitch to power up the electrical system via a solenoid switch. 1
stvski80085 132 #128 Posted February 18 So I have one of those metal tiger tanks that shoots pellets. The other day I was charging my lipo battery for my dogs truck and it caught fire. The tank was under it and it really screwed our floor up. Now the tank actually looks like it was in a war. The only good thing that came of that incident. Now I charge them in a fire safe bag I was only using to store them previously. It was one hell of a fire though. I drug the whole cart outside and let it burn out. I will never charge them out in the open again. Just thought I would share that. I will post a picture of it later.
Mickwhitt 4,985 #129 Posted February 18 Dangerous thing those li po batteries, we've had a few fires over here with people charging Chinese scooters and the like.
Handy Don 13,303 #130 Posted February 18 The RC aircraft flyers I know who use LiPo batteries store and charge them spaced apart in a cast iron bathtub indoors or a metal locker outdoors. When the batteries are exhausted, they immerse them in a saltwater solution to gradually drain off any remaining charge before handing them off to be recycled. stvski80085 132 #131 Posted February 19 I have a metal baking pan with the fireproof bags. I just didn't use them to charge but to store them. That's changed now. They have a lot of power in a small package.
Mickwhitt 4,985 #132 Posted February 19 Microswitch built into the range selector lever. Not a big job but bit of juggling to get it to fit and work. Hopefully now I can ditch the huge power switch that came with the kit and use a relay.

Mickwhitt 4,985 #135 Posted February 22 Fantastic little piece of engineering. I'd love to build one but what I'd do with it afterwards is the problem. Only so much annoying Mrs. W I can do lol.

Mickwhitt 4,985 #137 Posted Wednesday at 09:54 PM I've been spraying the body with primer and I'm.getting fed up of painting. So I went back to the tool chest idea and I'm having a go at a pair of pliers. I started with a 7mm thick slab of cast iron on which I drew the outline of a plier jaw and handle. Lots of filing and faffing to get the shape to my liking. The normal Milwaukee pliers are for scale. The middle one is a small pair I butchered to get the right shape of each jaw. The bottom one is my tiny attempt. Having got the profile about right I then cut the slab very carefully in half to give me two identical pieces. Tomorrow ill have a crack at milling the pivot point to get both jaws together. 3
