Vinnie 7 #26 Posted January 25, 2024 Yesterday I resolved the engine hunting problem by taking the top of the carburetor off and spraying gum out into jets and also compressed air. I just used it today and it started hunting again. I just brought this tractor so I think the gas was bad so I did my best to pump it out and replace it. I was thinking of getting a new gas filter and doing the same thing taking just the top off with the carburetor and compressor.

Check for any corrosion or scale in the bowl section, do a new fuel filter, gently blow out the lines.
Vinnie 7 #28 Posted January 25, 2024 Thanks. Good idea about the corrosion.

GWNORTH 7 #31 Posted January 25 I followed CODY and LYNNMOR's giudance as mentioned earlier in this post. Removed Carb top (after removing choke cable and muffler shield). Lifted out floats and needle . Removed everything that was removeable, including the idle jet and cleaned everything. I used a piece of 18 gauge copper wire to get into the little nooks and holes. Flushed everything with Carb cleaner and buttoned it all up. A couple of hours invested, and it runs like a top. It won't let me add the video right now of it running , smooth as silk. Says I can only upload 3.97 MB.

GWNORTH 7 #33 Posted January 25 I didn't know exactly what the "fix" was, but I think RED-Z06 is spot on, about the brass pilot jet.... I pulled that and ran a few strands of wire through the length of it, then poked wire through the holes in the side of the jet. There was a very slight blockage near the tip, which came out after poking it a bit and blasting carb cleaner through it. I did go ahead and clean up everything else that I could get to. Thanks to the wheelhorse experts, I'm back in the seat.

That tiny little hole in the pilot jet is so easy to clog, makes them run with a bad surge, had one that it would reclog a few times a year until i put the carb through a sonic cleaner, waited until i could commit to doing the valve lash, and reseal the intake while i had the carb off
GWNORTH 7 #35 Posted January 25 (edited) Right, there was some sludgy stuff at the bottom of the bowl too, that could get circulated around I guess. Edited January 25 by GWNORTH
