Prior to founding the company Ford worked at a hardware store and Ewing worked in the insurance business. The choice of name was an obvious attempt to capitalize on the success of the Ford Motor Company. Ewing hired tractor designer Robert Kinkaid to develop his product line, but named the company after Paul Ford.. The company may have hoped for a quick settlement with Henry Ford to acquire the name, but instead Henry Ford marketed his own line of tractors, beginning in 1916, under the brand name Fordson. Wilmot F. Crozier, who had been disappointed with the performance of several tractors he had bought including the one that had been marketed as a Ford tractor. Ford Tractor Company of the time was completely unrelated to the Ford Motor Company, and its products were of poor quality. His displeasure with the Ford tractor led to the creation of the Nebraska Tractor Test Law and the Nebraska testing facility which is still in operation today. The Ford Model B had one clime to fame, it was so bad that a law was passed to prevent others from being deceived by the manufacturer’s claims.
