RED-Z06 2,221 #1 Posted January 17 I got it in 2002 as a rusty rolling frame, the original dealer that sold it new in 62 had it, and some history on it...he sold it to a man that had a small garden, and he swapped the rear turfs off a 552 for the lug tires. Then the man passed and the son got the 702, i think a charger 12, a lawn ranger, and attempted to restore them but ended up selling them in pieces. The 702 was a frame, deck..then in a box was the fenders, tool box, steering setup, a couple dash panels (one with a filler and one with an ammeter, and a hood. I sandblasted it all, in 02, 2 good coats of primer, 2 coats of red, put a period correct K181S on it, and it worked...shockingly well. Then the s/g went out and time went on, it went into the back of my shop and sat 20 years. Couple weeks ago i pulled it out, ordered the starter parts and new ignition...ran great. So now its getting a strip down, new paint, decals, and fix a couple issues. The steering was sloppy where it passed through the tank so i made a stainless bushing. The hood was never attached so i picked up some billet Harley Davidson compartment screws that have a rubber seat that won't mar the paint. Up front ill put a 1/4-20 speed nut on the hood and use a winged thumb screw. The K181 had a couple bad cowling holes, one is stripped and one has a busted bolt. If i can fix both..perfect, if i can only get 1..that can work. So far the gas tank, steering, brake cover, s/g guard, belt guard, dash panel with new decal and found the filler panel until i can find an ammeter, fenders, just getting through it. 6 6

F FIERCE CYCLE Motorcycle Engine Rubber Fuel Gas Oil Tank Cover Seal O Ring Gaskets Protector Universal Circular https://a.co/d/43WnRyL The exact dimensions of the cap and tank flange, and its good and thick by the looks of it. Ive been using stacked cork or rubberized paper and it always leaked...cap never cinched down snug...this should get it back proper Edited January 18 by RED-Z06
RED-Z06 2,221 #8 Posted January 20 @clueless well, that gasket is dimensionally perfect...except its a shade too thick, the cap starts to cam down on the ears but it binds...the search continues. Regardless i have a perfect template now

With the vent, itll probably still seep if topped off. Mine would pretty much run out I ordered a sheet of 1/16" nbr, its fuel resistant, ill use the thick gasket as a template.
RED-Z06 2,221 #11 Posted January 21 Its down to the frame/trans and some linkages. Ill tape up the lift handle and spray it all. Engine is cleaned, 2 bad holes in the aluminum bearing plate drilled and helicoiled, painted. New head gasket, breather and carb gaskets inbound.

The front axle slop was fixed by putting a nut on the axle bolt pivot. Waiting on new head bolts and studs, points screws. Also...its 64⁰ today😅 Edited January 23 by RED-Z06 1

Handy Don 12,213 #19 Posted January 26 I’ve never seen a condenser mounted with a head bolt, always with coil clamp bolt. Interesting. NICE job on the rims..

The old coil mount barely held the coil, ive had the do alot of un-rigging on this one, i can shorten the wire back down and use the coil mount now i suppose. I need to get a new, longer coil wire and move the coil a bit lower too. Hoping to get the engine on the frame tomorrow and get the flywheel and shroud on. I can't lift it with the flywheel on and carry it, and i dont want to risk using the loader and scraping something. Im planning to stud the lower 5oclock shroud mount/starter belt cover mount...should be easier to access with the battery in place. The wheels were not as bad as id expected but it still took about 5 hours...i cut the old tires off by using a 4.5" cutoff wheel to slice a section of tire off, leaving the beads exposed, and cut the beads with the air chisel, then peeled the tires off. Then soaked in degreaser and power washed. I put a pipe in my vice, angled up, to hold the wheels, then mounted a 4.5" stripping wheel on the grinder, working my way around each bead face, then mounted a 2.5" wire wheel on the die grinder and cleaned up the rest of the bead surface, and stem holes, any loose paint or rust was removed, then power washed again. I fired up the old propane grill i retired last year, heated each wheel to about 250⁰, then a 2k primer, and 2 coats of Almond, 30 minutes setup, then back on the grill at 250⁰ for 30 minutes. Once cooled its hard as a rock. While cleaning i found a manufacturer mark on a back wheel. Edited January 26 by RED-Z06
