RKCrizzle 16 #1 Posted January 14, 2024 I've never seen something like this? What's its purpose, is there a way to attach a more friendly tow hitch to this setup? It seems like it would work for pulling a small yard trailer but what about attaching something to hold some weight for plowing? Any thoughts?

Someone who does that could tell you if that's usable for daily chores or if you'd be better off switching to a different setup. Your key consideration is weight capacity. The stock Wheelhorse hitch is a tab style that's not meant to hold huge amounts of weight very far away from the transmission case. Wheelhorse parts and more sells a nice hitch. There are other options on fleeebay that I can't advise using. Too weak. Maybe another vendor here would ideas as well. Brian Badman? @76c12091520h If you want /need more weight to gain traction a great option is fluid filled tires.

Seems the existing hitch attachment is very stout being fastened to the transmission lug and the top of the transmission. Agree with Eric, It is better to first fill the tires and add wheel weights. Then add rear hanging weight. It would be very easy to replace the existing small drawbar with a larger plate to mount a weight box or a rack for hanging cast suitcase weights.

I'll look into filling the tires, also just ordered wheel chains which should help. I was just perplexed by the setup, I have a plow braket on the rear axel which seems like it might not play nice with an aftermarket hitch. Seems like they both bolt to the axel. I did make one combo rear hitch weight bracket by replacing the small top plate in the plow axle bracket with a longer piece of angle iron that extended to the rear far enough to mount weights. It also had a support down to the transmission lug. Sorry, no pictures, That was a plow tractor I built for one of my sons.

See if you have access in your area to a product called Rimguard. It's a beet sugar based fluid fill that I use and recommend. As far as the hitch goes in combination with the snow plow bracket, there's a couple ways around that. You can custom build your own snow plow frame mount using angle iron. Also, the one from Wheel Horse parts and more is compatible with the stock hitch. Given the fact that you've got such a rugged setup on there already and It bolts to both the top and bottom of the transmission I would try pretty hard to figure out a way to USE that before replacing it.
