pfrederi 18,325 #1 Posted January 9, 2024 The K341 winter project must have had a long term exhaust valve seating issue. She is off to machine shop tomorrow to get measured then i will order the parts. (including new valves) 2
ri702bill 8,966 #2 Posted January 9, 2024 Hmmm.. a mite nasty, but it may be salvageable - if it is not bent. Chuck it in a lathe or even a cordless drill..... it may surprize you..

I saw valve sets on upward of 50 but for a shelf motor that I may never even put on a tractor? I would give it to a bro for the 100 in parts I have into it. The satisfaction I had building it... priceless. Edited January 10, 2024 by WHX??

My point is that there are some folks - who are shameless and shall go nameless - that would never consider anything but a genuine Kohler part.......not to start a "tinklefest" here, just an observation... EDIT - this comment is in no way directed to @pfrederi - Looks like my purpose of posting could be ambigious... that is $0.03!! I try to use OE replacement parts - IF they are still available and I refuse to endure price gouging. Aftermarket internal parts - yes, I have used them too. ALWAYS buy from a reputable vendor - some of the "cost effective" available items on the internet are questionable......

She is off to machine shop tomorrow to get measured then i will order the parts. (including new valves) This reminded me of my old boss’s wife’s car, (Renault 5). He brought in an exhaust valve, badly burned, asking where locally he could get it refaced, (on the cheap). At the time I was in charge of our workshop. I sat down in front of the bench grinder, valve in the chuck of a reversible drill, and offered it up to the grind stone. My colleague shone a light from above, and I ‘re-faced’ the valve whilst he gauged the correct angle by looking down at the contact point. We lightly lapped it to it’s seat in the head a couple of times, to ensure angles were okay. All in all it only took a few minutes to ‘reclaim’ the valve, and the whole job was surprisingly easy to achieve a ‘more than acceptable finish’. It would have taken him far longer to travel across town to have the job done professionally! (+ cost him, did I mention he was a bit of a cheapskate?). I wonder where you are now Peter?
