RJ Hamner 1,025 #28 Posted January 6, 2024 But Ed I already have a pretty good loader on a 520! WHX?? 50,698 #29 Posted January 7, 2024 (edited) The pump looks similar to a truck plow one. Those things draw upwards of 100 amps and then running off a large truck battery or even tandems. I don't know how he got it to run on a meager horse electrical system. Edited January 7, 2024 by WHX??
JoeM 7,923 #30 Posted January 7, 2024 Ed if you are going to dive into an FEL, power steering or reduction steering at a minimum. I have tried the manual stuff and it will work but is real tough. I seen one of those out this was on a Ford and they wanted big money. Like 4k.

I really have no use for it and to buy it rebuild it and sell is a losing deal. It could be a good project for a young 70yo guy. Steering, I like John's rear mount rear steering idea. I have been thinking it would work well on my 417A that I have no use for. Would be real easy to put the seat on the hood, extend the steering wheel and move the foot pedal motion control to the rear. I think these new FEL units are listed for over $5K. I'll be headed for Charels Town WVa. next week and may stop on my way and take a look and do some negotiating. That cab would have been nice on my 312H that I used this AM to plow in the rain.

The electric motor powered pump is mounted I don't know why but some photos do not appear on my laptop so today I brought it up on my phone. That bucket being way out front would be non starter for me, I can see filling it with dirt and the rear wheels coming off the ground. The heavy spindles, forward swept axles and gear reduction would be mandatory. Having used my Kwik-Way often I realize that it is at the limit, the Groundhog as shown is way over the limits. One example is the front wheel bearings, I have wasted the roller bearings, in my 520H and they are 1" trailer bearings, anything less wouldn't stand a chance. I know when I built my first one I was skeptical on how much I was going to use it. It is like Frank's Red Hot. I use that thing for everything. Was looking at doing a rear steer but got an xi with power steering an adapted the loader to it. 1
