POR15 ???

Everytime I start doing point work I end up on the Tube. Found this POR15 comparison today and it is interesting. 

It is long and you can skip to the 40 minute time on the vid to get the end results.

Without watching, I have never heard anything bad about POR15

I’ll have to watch it. The POR 15 I put on the bottom of the 312,s 42” deck over 6 year ago is still holding up excellent. Also some steel post down at my boathouse in the under water and on the splash zone  during the winter of 2018 still look good.

With all due respect to any "tester", it is impossible to accurately create every condition and environment that these products are used in. Point being- short of a catastrophic failure in a product, each of us may have different results. My machines have greatly benefitted from both Rust-Oleum and POR-15. 

 

I'm open to trying new stuff, but I also know what has worked well for me so far.

Other than the price.

I have pretty much switched to Rust Bullet it is a little cheaper and works good too. Of course it was not in the test.

 

I sent Andrew an email because I was curious about how he got the bed liner to stick to the anti rust coating.

There was no surface prep between the silver mastercoat and the Raptor. I sprayed the Raptor on when the silver was starting to tack up. This was how I sprayed the bottom of my mustang. Spraying wet on wet let's the solvents in the 2 products mix a little and gives a great bond. If you let the silver dry, you have to sand it with some 280-320 grit sandpaper.

 

Uses I am interested. Mower decks, fluid filled wheels and snow plow coating. 

Especially mower decks. I am not one that is obsessed with cleaning and slathering of oil. i pretty much service mid year and at the end of the year with a touch up.

 

Take away, while POR15 has high marks there just might be a product that matches the application in a better way.

I used the stuff on the brackets for my pickup truck tube steps. Steps rusted after 6months and got replaced under warranty. No new brackets!

3 years and they still look good. I couldn't open the can though. Had to punch a hole in the top. Used it all in one shot.

I think the silver Eastwood is the same as Agri-Guard in an Eastwood bucket at a higher price. I've used Agri Guard bought a gallon also bought empty 3 quart to store what I didn't use the first time. You are going to destroy the can the second time you open it. My sandy drive blasted I off in a couple of year on the vertical part of the deck. I painted my steel trailer 5 years ago it's holding up good. If you get that stuff on you, you'll wear it for a while.

 a layer of plastic wrap between the lid and can worked ok for me. I actually let it settle into the can on top of the liquid, not sure that did anything but the can opened easy.
