stevasaurus 22,714 #26 Posted January 4 Mick, before you give up on card games, consider trying Crazy 8's. A little stratagy and a little luck, but a fun short game. https://www.google.com/search?q=rules+for+crazy+8+card+game&oq=rules+for+Crazy+8's&gs_lcrp=EgZjaHJvbWUqCAgBEAAYFhgeMgcIABAAGIAEMggIARAAGBYYHjIICAIQABgWGB4yCAgDEAAYFhgeMg0IBBAAGIYDGIAEGIoFMg0IBRAAGIYDGIAEGIoF0gEKMzY3NjFqMGoxNagCALACAA&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8
Mickwhitt 4,607 #27 Posted January 7 We had a cards evening last night, which turned into a cards morning lol. The couple we invited hadn't played in years, but we all got the hang of things and had a really fun time of it. We played 13 card brag and then a version of something we call black jack, but its not the 21 scoring game you guys know. Its about getting rid of all your cards first without having to pick more up in penalties. I'm really glad we started messing with cards again. But I still struggle with cribbage and deciding what to discard the the crib lol.
Mickwhitt 4,607 #28 Posted January 7 Reading the description of crazy 8s it sounds very similar. The nearest thing I found to it on the Web was a game called Switch, lots of changing suits, making players pick up varying numbers of cards and changing direction of play. It got quite rowdy lol.
davem1111 2,030 #29 Posted January 7 We've been playing a card game called "Golf" (for some obscure unknown reason). https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Golf_(card_game) Except we use the Jokers as -2 points instead of "2's". Twos are +2 points. This game is fun because there's not a lot you can do strategy-wise, since you have no idea what the cards remaining face-down are. It's about 80% luck and 20% strategy, in my opinion. One hand usually only lasts about 10 minutes, so we usually play 3-4 hands then stop. We also like the "Monopoly Deal" card game, much more than the more tedious board game. Takes a bit longer than Golf but not as long as the board game. Sometimes we play Crazy Eights too. Always a fun game. Or "Uno", but you need special cards for that one. Several more "involved and complicated" card games that use their own special cards, which we have and used to play more, are "Munchkin" and "Pirate Fluxx". The Munchkin game has a lot of humor in it.
Mickwhitt 4,607 #30 Posted January 7 I decided to have a pop at a continuous crib board. It's not perfect but the, neither am I, as Mrs. W pointed out lol.
