Wayne0 471 #7 Posted January 1 (edited) Maybe I'll mount it to the wall of the barn and run a wire with a plug at the tractor. Coil the wire when not in use. I'd rather have it onboard. Pulling the machine into the (heated) garage tomorrow to check everything out from last winter before we get snow again. Oil, belts, lube etc. I'll see if there is a place to mount this thing. Normal on ours has the hold down pushing the battery (in its plastic tray) back against a couple of flanges bent up from the “floor” of the hoodstand. The flanges keep the battery from getting pushed against the steering shaft or the gauges. 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

doc724 925 #13 Posted January 6 My recommendation is to toss that battery minder out and buy one at Northern Tool, model #1500. Last I checked they are about $60, if on sale about $35. What's different about it? I has an umbilical that you can unplug from the charger cord and permanently attach to the tractor battery (the umbilical has spring clips which work fine, but you can just cut them off and crimp on ring terminals). The minder plugs directly into the wall outlet (or and extension cord) and there is a fairly long cord from the minder to the umbilical. I used this for tractors and for cars that are going to sit idle for extended time periods (3-6 months). Also, you can buy the umbilical at most auto parts stores if needed for different machines or for your car. 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

F. Marra 17 77 #15 Posted January 6 this is interesting as I never heard of mounting anything like this to any vehicle, tractors included. I mounted mine high up on the garage door track. (past where the door opens to obviously) and the tender lead wire hangs down to where i park the tractor. It came with a quick connect. the battery side lead has a rubber cover to prevent water or dirt while the tractor is in use and remains permanent on the batt terminals. I have had this set up for 5 years now and have not had a problem or have chnaged the battery yet. The instructions that came with it don't say that, however, it makes sense. It's a sealed AGM, but I'm going to mount it remotely any way. I have a cord similar to @F.Marra 17.
