battery size

So, what's the biggest battery I can put in my 520H? Those little "lawn tractor" batteries don't last very long here.

WHX??

GT12  group U1L in the 230 CCA size is what I run with good life. I don't think the battery space can take anything larger.

Since my 520s  are winter workers and need to crank in zero temps I go for the 300 CCA but I have seen them in 400.

These batteries it's luck of the draw on how long they last. I have gone 6 years and some only 3. Same brand.

You sure you don't have a hidden charging/discharging issue?

@Wayne0  check out Walmart U1L 300 cca   , for a same size , improved cold cranking amps , also use battery tenders on my  3 horses ,  have the electrical leader plug in  on choke cable , so its always easy to hook up . also think the tenders add life to battery , lets you keep them  full up in cold weather , mine are all in cold sheds . pete

Are you having hard start issues too? Like it's cranking for a long time if the tractor sits for a few days?

Get a 350CCA battery made by East Penn, there are a number of brands out there, I bought Duracell last time.  Skip the cheap 230 CCA junk.

No, just wa-wa then click, click. Just bought a 300 cca from wally world. We'll see how that stands up. I probably should get a tender as well.

You sir obviously ain't got thirty tractors to feed or have really deep pockets. Who in Gods great creation is East Penn? I ain't exactly in Kansas anymore Toto.

The cheap 230's  from Wally work fine in my small bores and even in the big ones. Just don't expect 4-5 years out of one. They are just like bearings ... designed to wear out.

Yes Wayne a battery tender can extend the life considerably. My winter 520s have one on them regardless of season. Those are the ones I get most longevity out of.

Yes 'Fish that sadly does  come into play and even with the check valve ... unless you fitted a electric fuel pump..

Ah. was hoping for and easy fix because heavy drains like that reduce battery life

The batteries we can get now a days don't seem to last more than a couple /few years.

I was proud of one I had on my vintage looking WH bike that had a sticker from 03. Sadly we're not going to see ANY new batteries last 20 years any more

Heat and cold  also play a role in battery life.

From their website: A private, family-owned company operating the largest single-site, lead battery manufacturing facility in the world.

I do expect and get 5 years or more from a good battery, YMMV.

Like others have mentioned, Don't buy cheap stuff! I buy Duralast Gold from Autozone and have that in my 520-H I keep a Harbor Freight Viking Microprocessor 4 Amp Charger plugged into all my Battery Tractors and have more Things Powered up on my 520 than 10 tractors. You wont loose a battery with a float charger hooked up.
