MikeDR 0 #1 Posted December 18, 2023 Hi Everyone, New to this Forum. I have a K161T SPEC 281271 on a Horse Tiller that I got back a few years ago, just starting the process of getting it up and running. The retractable pull start was pretty stiff, so i went through a rebuild which worked out great. The problem is that it looks like the cup attached to the flywheel was used for a while with the pawls only partially engaging, resulting in the gear/groves being stripped out in the cup. I've looked everywhere for a replacement, 1 found one on ebay for 200 bucks, which seems ridiculous. I thought that I'd start on here and see if anyone had an ideas to get this thing starting. Terry M-(Moderator) 2,175 #3 Posted December 18, 2023 Your Best bet is to place an ad in the classifieds “wanted” section. Also our “venders section is a good resource for locating parts.. and also Welcome to the Redsquare forum!!

WHX?? 48,815 #5 Posted December 18, 2023 (edited) Hi Mark and Yes there were a few different ones. Pics would help and type of recoil. A Fairbanks or Techy style? Name plate pic would help abit unless it's been messed with but would tell us what is supposed to be on it. This is a Fairbanks. MikeDR 0 #6 Posted December 19, 2023 I’ll post over in the classified. I don’t see a part number on the back, but from my research it should be 41 071 08-S which superseded 41 071 02-S. Here’re some pics 1. Front of starter cup 2. back of starter cup 3. pull mechanism with pawls
squonk 41,071 #7 Posted December 19, 2023 Looks like a Tecky to me.
Racinbob 11,056 #8 Posted December 19, 2023 If I recall correctly the Tecky and Kohler cups were two different depths. I believe the Kohler was deeper. This shot doesn't show the depth but I can check once it gets light outside. Is this like yours?
squonk 41,071 #9 Posted December 19, 2023 I know I used a Tecky cup on a K141
Pullstart 62,838 #10 Posted December 19, 2023 I am sure I’ve bought those at the Big Show for much less than $200…. Maybe 1/10 of that!
