Just getting started

I have been out of the engine overhaul business now for probably 40 years. Now I have a couple to overhaul

and parts to wash. My problem is when I started looking for a parts washer all I can find are ones that are

for water based solvent (soap). What do you guys use now days, are you stuck with this stuff?

Does this leave a film on your internal parts that is not the best to mix with the oil in a freshly overhauled engine?

What do you do to deal with this ? Thanks.

I have one of these. I use mineral spirits in mine with no issues. Been in use for at least 4yrs now.

That is good news, I like using mineral spirits for cleaning a lot of things. And it's fairly reasonable. Thanks.

I use the same thing I did in 1968 when I started in auto mechanics-  A galvanized foot tub in a welded stand filled with mineral spirits,  We used Varsol in the bucket back in the day.

I have the same HF parts washer as @pfrederi and @Achto but I use the parts cleaning solution from Tractor Supply. It works great and you don't have to put up with the mineral sperits odor.

Anybody use or try Oil Eater??

I have been using it for several years now and it works great.  Its a concentrate that you dilute with water.

It says that it can be used the food processing equipment without a problem.

I have used it in my parts washer and it both a trigger spits bottle as well as the mini pump up sprayer

Amazon has it and some of the Tractor Supply stores carry it

I have tried it as a spray on but the Gunk Kerosene works better for me.

I use a 6 gallon ultrasonic off amazon, i put in 1/2gal simple green, 1/2gal zep citrus, 1/3gal Stages20, then top with water.  I can clean for a long long time on that mix.
