So how do the items actually stay in place when it's up on the wheels?

I have an old Craftsman tool box I bought when I was 21.  It now has all my plumbing tools in it.  Your modification looks great.

Top tray fits precisely under lid . Inside main area it is customized for specific tools which are held in place through levers and such. I’ll get photos of that.

I'm assuming the wooden tray fits snugly against the metal top to keep the small bits from popping out?

Yes it does and those removable little wooden boxes with bits and smalls have their own sliding plexiglass lids too. The boy is very obsessed with all the details.

Look at the "foot" on the opposite end to the wheels. It didn't need the scroll cut into it, but it has it. A tiny bit of decoration that shows care and pride in a job done better than it needed to be.

The little shoot bolts to hold planes in place are a really neat idea.

Fantastic piece of work and something to cherish. Mick.
