I can't seem to pinpoint the number of military deaths during World War II, what I found is somewhere around 407,000.  If it wasn't for men like your social studies teacher this number would have been much higher.  Our generation was influenced by those who served and most of us never knew what they went through to secure our freedom.  We walk among heroes and don't even know it.

@Beap52  had our boy scouts , based in a local VFW hall, loaded with combat vets , the navy guys really helped us out with  food management  , how to set up a field mess hall , buy food / storage etc. , we  had a summer camp , that was home based in old train cars , on tracks , one car was , the kitchen , another , prep , storage , the other  cars were ,bunk  sleep areas . there was a little  guy , army / air force , Salvatore guacharo , help you with anything , tail gunner , b 17 , 27 missions  , DFC , AM , SILVER STAR , PURPLE HEART , ETC,  grew up with that support , Pete
