ebinmaine 67,432 #2 Posted December 5, 2023 Being your first restoration/repaint my recommendation would be to keep it fairly easy. Remove the sheet metal but leave the engine and transmission in place unless one of the two NEEDS to be rebuilt. That way you'll have a rolling chassis the whole time. Having seen the bare frame under the engine quite a few times I can tell you for sure that Wheelhorse did it this way. 2 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites
Pullstart 62,837 #3 Posted December 5, 2023 Please forgive me if I didn’t see this. Have you gotten the starter/generator on it, and verified that it’ll run, drive, etc? Well, at this point it’s your Horse, enjoy or restore is up to you. General consensus around most these parts, are if it’s original paint leave it. If it’s been painted before, it’s fair game. Tractorhead 9,064 #7 Posted December 5, 2023 Ouch.. whatever you do - just few minor i like to offer. before you disassemble any part, make lots of Pictures, that you will be able to rebuild it with them. it is allway‘s helpful to document as exactly as possible how it was before and when disassembled, to be later able to rebuilt it yourself. All wrenches and Tools be just the half bet. Skill and know how is the other half. nobody know‘s something about your Skills and know how in wrenching but a Wheelhorse is no Witchcraft. if you have questions about how to remove anything, don‘t hesitate to ask here. you can learn a lot with this great little Tractas while working on them. Horse Newbie 7,069 #11 Posted December 10, 2023 After seeing the pics of your daily driver, I would say you’re more than qualified to tackle the restore… So since you obviously “know a thing or two”, I am guessing you were just taking a poll on whether or not we think you should restore it… I vote yes ! I like ‘em pretty, but I am working on my 1977 C-160 now. She will get made mechanically sound, but will remain in her work clothes.
