uk175horse 17 #1 Posted November 30, 2023 Hi guys, I picked up a wheel horse here in the UK a few weeks ago, I'm a complete novice when it comes to tractors and engines, so take it easy on me:) Not to mention I'm used to everything metric! Lots of questions in my head , but loads of great knowledge on this site. Anyway the WH is a C175 automatic , model number 01-17ks-9 . I think 1980 or so. So not sure if its built slightly different to the US ones but pretty sure the transmission is the Sustrand one. (oil filter is on right side) Engine is not original though, its a Kohler K341 Comes with a rear discharge deck but needs some work and some patches rusted through. First thing I noticed firing it up a couple times, is that its pretty loud, I don't mind so much but do have some neighbours! It's got a pepper pot muffler on it now and I'm trying to figure out what muffler to switch to which would suit the engine. I've seen a few ideas on here but too many options, not sure where to start! I've measured the exhaust port on the engine and looks like 1 1/2" threaded pipe? the pipe isn't seized up so could be unscrewed easily. Alot of US links here, pretty sure I can order most items from ebay etc and get international delivery though.
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,046 #2 Posted November 30, 2023 Welcome to Red Square Suspect you are correct on the 1980 model year because the Sundstrand was replaced with the Eaton mid-model year. Not uncommon the see a 9 in the model number for exported models. Most likely a 91 or 92 once described as a parts list identifier. What we have for the 01-17KS02 No evidence a model 01-17KS01 existed. https://www.wheelhorseforum.com/search/?&q=01-17ks02&type=downloads_file&page=1&search_and_or=or&sortby=relevancy
Lee1977 6,662 #3 Posted November 30, 2023 There is a 01-17E01 with an Eaton in both 1979 and 1980. Where is the hydraulic filter. The filter on an Eaton is on the left side you can see the end of it.

Ed Kennell 38,178 #5 Posted November 30, 2023 to the Looks like Garry and Lee have you covered. I'll only add, the Eaton 1100 is a great hydro. I have three and never had a problem.
uk175horse 17 #8 Posted November 30, 2023 Thanks for the welcomes! This is how it looked when I picked it up and the transmission - the oil filter is off in the photo but its on the right hand side, not at the back. So any opinions on a good quiet muffler for the K341 engine? slightly prefer something that is down the side or in the front of the hood , but could be a stack too.. Do most of the mufflers clamp onto the threaded to straight pipe adaptor, at the moment I've got a threaded angle piece into a straight pipe with the pepper pot welded on.

uk175horse 17 #10 Posted December 3, 2023 I guess there's a fair few posts about the mufflers already so I'll try and be more specific . I'm thinking of a short stack in stainless steel, something like clamp on type - Universal Extra Quiet 4" Stainless Steel Silencer Muffler Box With Extra Baffles | eBay . There was another UK member on here who had some success with the same one. I've got a 45 degree angle into the engine block now - how do you orient the angle right so the thread is tight at the right position? Do people use some sort of high temperature teflon tape?? Thanks!
