Every time you "get used to it" the stupid thing will do an update and will screw with your head again.  The long button on the right used to turn off the phone, now it brings up the voice nonsense.

I am however anti ridiculous updates I don't need because my poor phone was working fine for 3 or 4 days straight.

BTW Kev just a heads up ... supposedly there is a feature on new I phones that if your phone comes in close contact with another I phone it can swap contacts in your phone book. It was in the news and there is a way to turn it off. Might want to check into it.

Me and a couple local buddies have oftentimes joked about ourselves being "dangerous".

I'll probably never figure out my smart phone. I have the new Razr. I can get online, text, & make/receive calls. That's enough for me. My kids make fun of me. Lol! Embracing technology is difficult for me. I can barely operate the smart TV's in the house & garage. Had my Cadillac for over a year & am completely lost on how to operate the smart screen. I liked it back when things were simpler

For some things, I agree, but despite the ongoing challenges (and yes, it took me months to become comfortable with my 2022 car’s controls and features), I accept that there is no going back so I try to embrace the new. I do fully get that the pace of change is daunting and that some of us are “wired” better for adaptation than others. 

As an example, the “proximity warnings” in my new-to-me car kept me from hitting an obstacle too low to see over the hood when maneuvering in a tight driveway.

I agree in principle that is a good idea and I do in fact use them on my own Kia. The straight trucks at work as well.

Where I have a serious issue with it is believe it or not, safety.

Our tractor trailer trucks have a full set of very powerful proximity sensors all the way around the TRACTOR.

What do you suppose happens to the reaction system when the tractor figures out that there's a trailer?? Try taking a right turn....

Yep, when I installed a trailer hitch for this car it included a module from the car manufacturer to integrate the 7-pin connector for the trailer electrics. No more “splice into the tail light wiring” stuff--all plug-ins. The module required a software download into the car’s system as well, to enable it. (Yes, more $$)

Now, when I plug the trailer lighting connector into the car, the module detects it and displays in the dash a message offering to do a “light check” (which alternately flashes all the lights in a sequence). When i start the car, it further warns me that due to the trailer, the Blind Spot Info system and the rear proximity sensors have been disabled. Fair for the reasons noted above! The backup and 360º camera views still work, but the angle is useless for seeing the trailer.

 

Lesson? Revert to your old “head on a swivel” driving behavior when towing a trailer! 😁 ✅

The back up camera, blind spot and rear obstruction warnings are a Godsend for us with an arthritic neck that doesn't turn.  I can finally safely back out of a parking space with out wait for a horn to blow.      Mrs. K always drove in the far right side of her lane and has clipped a few mailboxes.    After driving her new car the first time, she commented the tires need balanced.

Yes they still hake new heavy duty kyocera phones had to retire my old one a year or so back. They replaced it with a free cheap one that I broke less then a year later.

Assuming you mean where the engine stops when the car is braked to a halt. Yeah, takes getting used to for sure but if you live with a lot of traffic lights, it does save a lot of fuel and emissions.

Having the parking brake electrically controlled also took a while to become habit.

 

The only default on mine that I’d like to see changed is with the lane change indicator. A quick bump on the signal lever gets me three flashes--I’d much prefer four or even five but that isn’t a dealer-changeable option. Oh well, I just hold it for as long as I need it.

 

The end of my driveway has hedges on either side that make it hard to really see when backing out. The camera at the back of the car has a perfect view, though. so I and pleased to be able to stop and look at the backup camera.

 

Yesterday I encountered a quirk. Attempted to back down a very steep driveway onto the level lane at the bottom. The rear parking sensor kept seeing the level portion getting closer and slamming on the brakes to “save” me from backing into an obstacle! Got out to be sure the rear had clearance (it had plenty) and then had to creep the rest of the way down. Just a valid reminder that even a very useful system might not be perfect. 😉

Another default I would like to change is the performance.     Mine has three choices,  economy, normal, and sport with normal being the default.

I like the economy because the transmission seems to shift smoother and at lower RPMs.   The 45 MPG is also a plus.     I have yet to try the SPORT Mode and do a smoke show.

@Ed Kennell glad to know it still uses gallons.  As for a smoke show, a local half yuppified lake had a garage burn down this morning.  Electric car went up and let out all the magic smoke.
