Spindle shaft Die Spec?

Recommended Posts

Brockport Bill

can someone tell me the Die spec size and thread for a 5/8 spindle shaft on the bottom blade end of the shaft? Taps and Dies is not something i have worked with much and i have a badly burred shaft blade end so hard to determine correct Die fit and I don't want to guess wrong Die? Thanks

Mine are all .NF 3/4 -16.  My guess is that it's National Fine threads 5/8 -18.

Check the hardness FIRST in that threaded area by running a file over it. If you can't leave a mark with file, the part is HARD - probably harder than the die. Sometimes a 60 degree jewlers file is your only choice to clean up the thread.....

Usually part of a 10 or so piece set. DO NOT waste your time or money on a cheap knock off set. Nicholson is a good name......

actually i have that thread file and that's what i reverted to --- but unfortunately one spindle shaft was very damaged at the blade end so that's why i wanted to use a Die to fix the damaged threads -- Using a Die made more sense for a better result than a thead file
