JoeM 7,873 #5 Posted November 10, 2023 When i was a teen i worked in a small town garage in the Summer. Remember the vets stories and did not know at the time not stories but a history lesson. I looked at a search on the web and found these gov numbers of persons that died during wars. not always in battle but during the war. The numbers are staggering. I had the honor of being taught some American History by a veteran of Hamburger Hill. Mrs. P and I, the girls and two friends were at a hot dog and ice cream parlor in another town for lunch today. A man and his lady sat down and I noticed his Marine Veteran hat. I had a satchel of beef jerky in my check out pile. Most if not all stores offered 10% off for Vets. When at the check out I over heard him ask for the discount. On the way out I thanked him for serving and gave my satchel to what I guessed was his grandson. Kid's eyes lit up like a Christmas tree. So I don't have TV at camp to watch the Packer game so I went to the "hall... a tavrine" to watch it. I had a 40 dollar hamburger and asked the bartender if the discount was still good. She says your bill has already been paid for and pointed to muskie Bill who I hob nob with occasionally. I have no idea how he recognized me I was dressed in cognito.
