Last year we drove the Senior and a 953 to town for a parade, then home. I am barely man enough to hold my bike, wife and my butt up off the pavement. When we used to do 100-200+ bike rides, it blew my mind how much booze flew out those establishments. After about 7 in about 1-1/2 hours the bartender cut me off !😆 He said “you won’t sleep for 3 days”. I was an Assistant Scout Leader, but was acting Leader for the weekend. We were camping in the City Park and putting on Scout Craft displays and activities for the public. All went well Saturday and had all the boys in their tents before midnight and most of them asleep. I went to bed and was awakened about 4am by a flashlight in my face attached to a City Police Officer. Seems he picked up a young 12 year old boy in a scout uniform wandering the streets about a mile from the park. This boy was wound up, bouncing off the walls. After some questioning the officer and I learned, he wasn’t on drugs, but he couldn’t go to sleep so he shot a 4 pack of Red Bull one after the other. Then he really couldn’t go to sleep so he went for a walk, barefoot and no flashlight or anything with him. By shot, he would open the can, turn it upside down and while sucking on it pop a hole in the top end with a can opener and chug it down. I made him stand outside my tent for the rest of the night and I went back to bed. The next morning he was asleep in a crumpled heap. We helped him to his cot and he slept most of the day. When his parents picked him up, I learned the officer had called them and told them his story. That poor boy learned he wasn’t to old for his dads board of education. The vast majority seem to have done well and I’m especially proud to still have some of them as friends.
