Lol

Back on track... Dan come over today to do some Christmas shopping for a build. A nice six speed, hood stand some engine parts & some other stuff.

While he was here helped RE-MOUNT the rears. Good and bad news ther. Bad news is they didn't hold air... wonder why.

20231201_163609.jpg

Same thing both rears. Chinese got an ear full.

Run what ya brung... pulled some valve stems in and went topless... er tubeless. Hold air just fine.

Also helped fix the steering column so that's done. Now stiffer than a wedding... never mind.

Thank you Dan :bow-yellow:

Tried to repair the gas gauge but the coil in the meter movement was open. Sorry Richard for looks only. Twant for lack of trying.

Some research turned up these were made by EMICO. Electro Mechanical Instrument Co. in Perkasil PA. Out of business for years but some fleabay listings did turn up some NOS ones I believe I coulda made work. Not real expensive either. Same one used in the battery charger.

Down off the stands and a roller. Finnish wiring the battery charger & reinstall, clean up some connections and calling it done. Tires do look nice.

:text-imsorry:            Guess I will be seeking a refund on the six inch tubes.     Thanks for all the work you and Dan have been doing.        :text-thankyouyellow:

This 50 volt DC meter movement looks like it could fit right in there, if you want to try it out I will buy the meter and have it sent to you. Let me know.

EMICO 2438 Meter - Picture 4 of 8     Is this what you were looking at?

Not your fault Richard ... initially thought my bad that I pinched them or something stupid but Dan agrees just cheap $ht. I hope they don't want them back they heated the shop today.

Real close on the meter. Lemme go see what I was looking at. I know they were for 12 VDC but with one of @Racinbobs properly placed resistors?

The A-60 is 36 volts.

Yep I know ... this is all I found Lot of (2) EMICO 15VDC Edge Meter - New w/o Mtg Clip | eBay

With the right wiring I bet I could get them to read 36 volts and the scaling is easily changeable.

Can you post a :text-link: to the ones you found?

The scaleing on originals are not labeled volts... just green yellow and red colors. See post 40.

Not that it matters a whole lot.

Thank you Sylvia. It was caused by moisture and rust under the floor mat combined with mouse doo doo. The killer was using to the steering wheel to pull oneself in the saddle.

Jim, you are right on with your thought process. Basically a DC Voltmeter reacts to the amount of current flowing through the coil windings which are in series with the ballast resistor, change the resistor and you change the voltage range being read. That is why the resistor was a +/- 5%% rather than a less expensive one.

Here is the link for the 50 volt unit.https://www.ebay.com/itm/266497225331?_trkparms=amclksrc%3DITM%26aid%3D111001%26algo%3DREC.SEED%26ao%3D1%26asc%3D20160811114145%26meid%3D5b91efac495747b39073ea64c21f87c8%26pid%3D100667%26rk%3D5%26rkt%3D8%26sd%3D164955109475%26itm%3D266497225331%26pmt%3D0%26noa%3D1%26pg%3D2351460&_trksid=p2351460.c100667.m2042

All back together other than the fuel gauge. Tackle that later and remove the bolt that Dan snapped off putting the cover back on. :doh:Thats alright he removed one I snapped taking it off.

Would have liked to take it for a tool but got a couple " of white concrete this AM so best was turning around in the shop.

One thing that bothers me yet is the noise it makes when running in neutral with the clutch out. I don't think it is coming from the idler pully but rather the tranny.

Input shaft seems to have quite abit of side play. 1/16 maybe better.

Look in the files Richard peerless 706 everything there.

For now I need to move it to the warehouse and get a 502 in with a leaky two piece tank.

The only horse I have with a front blade and sure would have been handy for the concrete. Blowers would have been useless in it.

Mine makes a quirky sound also, and it's, well was, NOS... kind of a high pitch squeal... but i think it's more the motor...

These trannys are filled with grease, no oil. After 50 years??? Who knows...

I had one on a Sears rear engine rider about forty years ago that I opened up out of curiosity to seer if it needed lubrication. The grease had become a hard cake with divots cut in it where the gears were located. I left the caked-up grease where it was and put in a couple cups of 90 gear oil in it, quieted right down and never had another problem with it.

This is more of a bad bearing howl. Maybe is from the idler but not sure. Is a little loose but not bad. I suppose  I could replace the idler which is the common one.

Little leakage under the tranny input but not terrible.

Another thing that I would address if this were mine.

The main fuse holder.

Looks like it has been cobbled.

I cleaned it up best I can ... new terminal end here or ther but connection posts are questionable and too small for my liking. Looks like it has a fuse of sorts but???

I might be just being anal here but both Dan and I have this nasty dirty filthy habit of doing things right and somewhat professional. Suspect it goes back to our days when we worked in shops and didn't want customers coming back to :bitch:

I would install a mega fuse holder or a midi might fit better. The one piced is a snow plow 250 Amp mega bad boy but fuses are common in lots of sizes and all over the jungle.

I don't remember what was on Sylvia's.

I will get one once I find out what fuse @SylvanLakeWH used on his A-60. As I remember it had to have one of the holes modified to fit.

Jim, you are being too good to me.   :handgestures-thumbupright:     That will give me something to do once I have it home. Looks like there are two roller bearings and an "O" ring for a seal.

Here's what I put in.

First pic is what blew. Second pic is new breaker.

Plug and play... Has been working flawlessly.

These are what I put in the E-141 when it blew:

These needed a bit of love to fit. Working well.
