What is this?

I don't know if this is something made by Toro. But if it is I'd like to know.

Don't think Toro made it, but it is a ground ripper,that is what it looks like to me. They normally have a curved sharp point that goes in the ground. 

 

It is used to tear up hard pan ground.

We have this one for a Garden Tractor.

It's about 16" long.  

 

The one pictured in the first post looks VERY large in comparison.

Subsoilers can be “exciting" to use in rocky or heavily rooted ground--either can bring forward progress to an abrupt halt and possibly break things.

Absolutely agreed. 

 

The trick on possible rough ground is to start shallow and work down in small increments.

While I love modifying these machines, I fear installing an air bag is beyond my abilties...
