He had 1/2 to 3/4 inch of fat all over. Made a real chore to skin as I like to leave all the fat on the hide so I don't have to trim the meat later. Another surprise, I did not find one tick. They are usually covered this time of year. He walked into my shooting lane at 27 yds at 8AM this morning. He ran about 40 yds and fell over. This was the fourth time I saw this buck in the past three weeks. We are in our fifth week of our six week long archery season and I have spent well over 100 hours in my tree stand. Sure was glad to have the 312H close by as this 170 lb 80 yo couldn't begin to move him. 6 8
Pullstart 62,883 #7 Posted November 1, 2023 Congrats Ed Dog! I had a neighbor come in the drive this afternoon. He shot a small buck low belly this morning (archery season here) and tracked it to the road at my property line. I recalled helping him and his dad a few years ago with a flat tire on a snowy cold Sunday morning around the corner. He tracked his deer 3/4 across my property loosing blood. He said of all the deer tracks, he was familiar with this one’s cadence after a mile or so of walking but he lost blood and tracks in my grass. I might have met a new customer, he has a could pieces of equipment for his construction business that need repairs from time to time.

Ed Kennell 38,176 #20 Posted November 2, 2023 Today was deer processing day. I took all the rough cuts, about 30 lbs of lower leg, rib, and trimmings to the butcher for bologna processing. Along with one rear quarter for dried chipped venison. That should make about 12 lbs of meat for chipped beef gravy. We shrink wrap all the back strap, steak, and tenderloin. For the ground meat, I had 25 lb of well trimmed meat and mixed in 4 lb of chopped bacon. I found it is better to keep the bacon frozen. Makes it easier to chop and grind. We found a standard zip lock sandwich bag holds 1 lb of burger. After closing. we flatten the bag into a flat square before freezing and when we are ready to use it, before thawing, just peel away the baggie and two cuts make four perfect 1/4 pounders.
