Mickwhitt 4,624 #1 Posted October 30, 2023 Sad news from Sheffield. A hockey player, Adam Johnson, was tragically killed on Friday during a game. He was involved in a "freak accident" on the ice when he suffered a fatal cut to the neck from a skate. Formerly a NHL player he was playing for Nottingham panthers. He was only 29 years old. God bless and keep him.

Pullstart 62,879 #3 Posted October 30, 2023 I’ve seen video reels of how quick a skate can cut skin. This isn’t the first time a skate has hit a neck, unfortunately. My condolences to his family, friends and colleagues as well. I know this story will be difficult to believe, with my flawless injury record. When I was a young whipper snapper, my mom was bringing my brother and I to our grandparents’ house on the lake to go skating. We had nice CCM hockey skates and had just gotten them sharpened. They’re a good 1/8” thick or more. And flat. How sharp could they be? My brother dared me to run my hand across the skate. Like I said, it was wide. Couldn’t be that sharp! Fresh sharpened. I’m so gullible! Well, I did it. I ran my hand so fast across that skate, I was a bleeding idiot in the back seat. My brother couldn’t believe I actually did it. I couldn’t believe how bad I was cut. I knew if mom knew about it, the truck would be turned around and we couldn’t skate. I stuck my hand in my mitten, and held it tight. We skated all day and that mitten was a bear to get off my hand!
