Seat Tape

Trying some of Phil Swift's flex tape on a seat repair. 

Very sticky, flexible might just work out. but pricey. 

Looking for something other than black duct tape.

My first thought was Gorilla tape as well.

 

A few months or a year ago our portable garage got into a fight with a windstorm and lost.

When Trina was looking online for a best case scenario to hold it together a bit longer she found that Gorilla BRAND makes a sealing tape. 

I believe the roll we got is about four inches wide.

This stuff is SO INCREDIBLY STICKY that we found it very challenging to manage it. Once in place I would dare say it's near impossible to remove.

A roll of Gorilla Tape has earned a place in my tool “go bag”. I’ll have to give the Sealing Tape a try!

I was sitting here grumbling about Duck Tape and thought I'd search and see if there were any threads discussing the quality (or lack thereof) of the various tapes available. I have to admit I have a bit of a "tape fetish"  and have a variety of painter tapes, duck/duct tapes, etc.  What I'm irritated about right now is, every winter I tape a plastic trash bag over the wall unit air conditioner in the den where my desk is (it's a window unit but is mounted in a hole thats just big enough for it, with a steel frame).  And it seems like every year, I have to re-tape it several times. This year, I used brand-name "Duck Tape", and it only stayed stuck for about 2 weeks. The tape is supposed to stick to either the painted wood moulding around the hole, or to the painted sheetrock wall just outside that. The wall needs to be re-painted at some point, so I'm not too worried about peeling some paint (which has already happened to some extent).

 

I think I used to have a roll of Gorilla Tape but either used it all or the kids used it all, probably mummifying each other in it or something silly like that. I'm actually wondering if that stuff is too sticky for this application, since I need to remove it in the spring.  Wondering what other brands people here may have experience with.

 

Ideally, I'll build a removable wooden cover for this air conditioner and the one in the living room (where the wall HAS already been nicely re-painted...), but I haven't found time for that yet.

 

Regarding tractor seats, I've had some that a PO has applied some kind or another of tape to, and it always seems to come off and leave sticky goo behind eventually. I've been treating small cracks with Liquid Electrical Tape in a can with a brush. Several applications seem to work well for this. For big cracks, I guess it's either Gorilla Tape or a new seat going forward.

I took pieces from an old leatherjacket and glued on my seat 2019, it holds fine!

it could have been dann much nicer i know!

But it gonna last 20 years i think?

The adhesive on duct tape (its original name) does dry out.

I am quite pleased with Gorilla tape, which cures in place after exposure to air. Find yours (or buy another). To remove it, use a heat gun at around 250º to soften the cured adhesive.

BTW, using Gorilla to mummify? Not such a hot idea!

I am a big fan of gorilla tape especially since duct tape has gotten so thin and crappy. @davem1111 you might want to try "gaffers tape" for your A/C application. Used it in the music business to tape down cables. Designed to hold well yet easy to remove. You have to get it from a supply store for sound / lighting gear and it is pricey but great stuff.

Thanks for the reminder. I’d forgotten about this stuff.

I used it a lot in college as crew for theater and concerts and it worked really well. Little or no residue on removal and sturdy while on.
