REV 9 #1 Posted October 25, 2023 Need your expert help fellas. Picked up a wheel horse suburban (I think) and can’t pin down it’s identity. Did a lot of research and think I have a 400/401 hybrid. Hood looks 400 to me but clutch pedal and mower deck look 401? Any idea if it’s a 400 with 401 parts or a 401 with 400 parts? I think it’s been repowered with a tech hh50 sometime in the past so this is not helping me. Thanks in advance for any help you could give me. Bob.
953 nut 55,260 #2 Posted October 25, 2023 The belt cover is 401 and the hole over the spark plug is bigger than would be found on a 400. Looks like it is in good overall condition.
wallfish 17,000 #3 Posted October 25, 2023 Yeah, a little bit of both The pedal and deck is 1961 The hitch extension on the back is for 1960 because those 1960 decks used the regular rear hitch for lifting the deck Hood looks like a 1960 But with that bigger cut out for plug access I'm guessing a 401 with some other parts on it
REV 9 #4 Posted October 27, 2023 Thank you very much for the information gentlemen. It’s always nice to get confirmation from the experts. Best part about it is I scored it at a small auction locally for $20! Also got an additional set of rear rims with turf tires for a dollar. Hoping to ‘rustore’ and eventually hit some meetups and shows. Thanks again. Bob. 2
